KD's Egg Hatching Guide

Preface

This guide is to answer one of the most asked questions by newer players:
“Should I hatch on this egg?”

There’s no easy answer, but this guide will outline exactly how you can use your gems most effectively to develop your account. In terms of what monsters to go for, only you can decide that. I recommend taking a look at the Neo Monsters tier list to see the monsters considered best. To find out what makes them good you can either search their name in the topic or look in the Tier list change log. To find out their movesets, most monsters have a “poll and discussion” thread made for them on the forum so you can find that to see what their moveset was like on release (note it might have been changed in updates - which the tier list change log will cover). There’s also the information in the monsterdex once you first meet the monsters, with the monster analysis helping to give you better insight.

The Fortune Shrine
Since 2021 we now have a crucial offer of free gems to take advantage of: the fortune shrine. It comes roughly twice a month and can give you an average of 225 gems each time. This income makes legendaries very easy to get and awakening mythics becomes achievable even for free players. However, to get the full benefit of the shrine you must have 500 gems saved up at all times. You have to simply treat 500 gems as your new “0”. No matter what stage you’re at in the game you must aim to get the full benefit from the shrine. It will fuel the development of your account.

Monthly free gems income
Otherwise, the general income we get is roughly 430. So that’s 450 from the shrine and 430 from everything else = 880 gems per month. This is as of February 2026 and considering that you use all your tickets and complete everything. Most of the “430” is attainable even without being able to complete events, so as a new player you can consider your monthly income to be, say, 700-750 gems. To put that in perspective, awakening a mythic costs roughly 2000 gems so we can do that every 3 months or so.

Shrine average gems = 225
We used to get roughly 16 a year, but since May 2025 they come exactly twice per month = 450 gems per month
Gems per month from free play = 430
Therefore free gems per year = (450 + 430) * 12 = 5400 + 5160 = ~10560 gems

There’s also the anniversary each year which gives us an extra generous login and bigger fortune shrine, plus typically January has a special PvP season with bonus gems. That probably makes the grand total something like 9000 gems.

Full breakdown of gems from free play (per month):
112 from PvP [60 + (67-20) + ~5]
25 from PvP daily gem
33 from Biweekly [15 / 14 * 30.5]
17 from SCB [4 / 7 * 30.5]
61 from Daily missions [2 * 30.5]
13 from Standard login bonus [12 / 28 * 30.5]
6 from Cumulative login bonus [20 / 100 * 30.5]
44 from Featured monster login bonus [10 / 7 * 30.5] - these seem to be regular now
64 from Limited-time events [4 * 16] - varies each month so a simplification here, balancion’s is 10 gems and comes regularly while others are 16-20, ST 33 and UC 55-60.
30 from MBQ [~1.5 * legendary MBQ]
25 from Event achievements [SCB+biweekly+crown+moalith+limited events]

The Anniversary (October 22nd)
Each year at the anniversary there are eggs which have an extra mythic in every 10th pack. This is basically the mythics being half price and is an excellent use of gems. In more recent years there are 12 mythics featured in this way, providing a huge opportunity to spend lots of saved gems. You can see details about it in the Version update history. It’s highly recommended that you save thousands of gems for this if you already have a developed collection. The strategy in this guide is what you should be doing in the meantime, when not saving for the anniversary or needing to build your collection.

Should I only focus on mythics?
The game has definitely shifted in recent years so mythics are the main thing that matter for competitive PvP and for overpowering PvE content. However, there are a bunch of legendaries that hold up just as well and it takes years of developing your account before you truly start benching most of your legendaries. I recommend your primary concern should be to hatch in eggs where the featured mythic is one you want, but you should always factor in the featured legendaries too.

An important concept

Having more monsters is key, even ones that aren’t top tier. All monsters are tools and the more you have, the more options open up to you. Also, you can’t rely on getting particular legendaries due to the way the hatching system is done. Therefore, it’s important to value getting new monsters and not care so much about getting the most prized legendaries.

You’ll see below that I recommend stopping hatching when your chance of new featured legendaries drops, which is how you put this into practice. Keep building your collection and you’ll naturally get the monsters you really want over time.

Mythics can be specifically targeted, but you do not need to awaken them in one go. It’s typically better to work on them over time, picking up a broader collection of legendaries that are featured alongside them over multiple eggs.

The hatching strategy

The best egg hatching strategy depends on what stage you are in the development of your collection. I’ve categorised these below and you can decide which is most relevant to you and when to progress from one strategy onto the next. I’ve written them following on from the previous stage so be sure to read through them all.

In a nutshell:
You have a short list of mythics you want to get then hatch only on eggs they’re featured, where you also don’t own the featured legendaries. In the later stages, once you’ve got a good collection, you progressively shift focus onto awakening mythics and worry less about the quality / how many of the featured legendaries you have already.

Early stage

This is where you have a fresh account. The focus is getting a collection of high quality monsters to complete content and form a foundation for a strong collection in the long run.

Create a list of roughly 10 mythics that are strong when awakened and also good in second form and that you like the look of (see the tier list section for second form mythics). Wait until they’re featured, when you own none of the featured legendaries and there’s at least one top legendary in there (some kind of S tier). Stop hatching as soon as you hatch a copy of the mythic, or if you get the strong legendary in the first few packs (so you’re still super far off the mythic pity). If you got the mythic, take it off your list and consider adding another mythic to the list.

If you find there are many egg banners which meet the criteria above, consider either making your list of mythics shorter or waiting for egg banners which have 2+ high tier legendaries featured.

Middle stage

This is where you’ve got enough good monsters you can complete most PvE events and you want to start aiming for the late game. This shifts focus onto building collection size and awakening mythics.

Create a list of mythics you would like to awaken that is 5-10 in number. Hatch only on eggs which feature those and where you also own none of the featured legendaries. Compared to the early stage, do not care as much about there being a high tier legendary. Stop hatching when you get a copy of the mythic and in the meantime got at least one of the legendaries. If you get the legendaries in the first few packs (so you’re still super far off the mythic pity) then consider stopping to wait for a better opportunity.

Bear in mind that mythic pity is 30 packs (1200 gems), so try to maintain a large gems hoard (2000 gems?) so you’re prepared to go to pity if necessary.

Later stage

This is where you own many legendaries so too few eggs come under middle stage conditions and your gems build up if you stay too strict.

The plan is much like the middle stage. Continue with a list of 5-10 mythics to awaken. However, now you can hatch even when you own one of the featured legendaries. Just make sure there are new legendaries being featured that you’d like to own. Also, another difference is you should make sure you are always prepared to go to pity and you don’t stop if you get the featured legendaries early. You stop when you hatch the mythic and the egg doesn’t still fill the criteria for hatching or your gems are too low.

Spender / Ultra late stage

This is where you’ve got practically all legendaries you care about or are happy to spend for mythics.

Create a list of the mythics you want to awaken that is maybe 5-10 mythics long. Hatch only when they are featured and when there is at least one featured legendaries you don’t own. Once you have all the featured legendaries then stop hatching on the next hatch of the mythic. Bear in mind this is only a recommendation for efficiency. You can obviously just go all out until you awaken the mythic if you wish.

If you’re a spender who plans to do this I recommend making your list slightly smaller; more like 3-5 mythics at any one time. This will probably help you spread out your spending, making the most of shop offers and avoid hatching ones you regret spending on. It will give you time to really get the most out of the mythics you awaken and learn to use them well.

If you’re not a spender then I recommend you keep a hoard of a few thousand gems (e.g. 4000) and only hatch when you’re above that, to space out your hatching a little and mean you have enough to fully awaken a mythic when you want to.
