Lol I expected people to be asking for buffs on Regalion almost immediately. The moveset is a bit weird but very interesting.
It’s clear how to play with it:
Accelerate team (if SS unlocked)
Seal - turns battle into 3v3 with passives in your favour
Double Survivor
Double Survivor / Megabomb
Thing is, it’s not immediately obvious how to take advantage of the 3v3 setting. But with knockback, send back, pull back, switch friend, give turn, team turn, etc. all completely unusable this breaks so many potential strategies your opponent may be trying to use. If not, there’s still a good chance you can take a problematic monster out of play for ages. Regalion has quite decent speed so should get a turn most of the time and pull off the 300s stun.
As for the Double Survivor / Megabomb issue. This is basically a huge reason for you to protect it or otherwise why an opponent cannot simply leave it alone. Let’s say you’re fighting against Regalion but it doesn’t mess up your strategies. What it will do is speed up the enemy team and take one of your monsters out of play. You can then ignore it for 300s but you MUST kill it by then or else it has huge sweeping potential.
So, all things considered, Regalion has very solid use in many scenarios. It’s got all it needs and after 400s has passed you can choose to sacrifice it for huge damage in one last finale. In some ways this is actually handy because the passives might not be doing much.
There’s no need to buff the speed (this would result in a quick stun - only seen on Icefang and that’s probably the main thing it has going for it, plus it kinda needs to kill the stunned enemy to charge bloodcrave).
There’s no need to reduce the TU of Seal (Regalion can’t do much before 300s and it becomes super good after then, the passives are enough for the 300s)
There’s no need to upgrade Megabomb to Novablast (this monster is all about the passives, Megabomb is simply a bonus option)
I look forward to seeing some people use Regalion effectively. It should be good fun to play with and against.
Excellent breakdown on Regalion @Killerdog. Regalion is one of the most beautiful looking monsters in the game and it’s nice to see that it has the potential to be extremely powerful.
I understood everything but…
Why would you ever set up a monster, protect him, base your whole strategy around his passives and then make it explode. Let’s be honest, his double survivor isn’t a reliable sweeping move, if you think novablast is too much give him a weaker version that doesn’t pierce HG and Shields but doesn’t kill nor heal him. I haven’t tried him yet due to lack of time but I’m sure he is fine, I just consider the Bomb out of place on him
Well like he said, it’s just another option, and it might look a lot more appealing if, say, your enemy is prepared and doesn’t bring anything that could be affected by angel. 4 kills is pretty incredible regardless of the context(mostly). And I don’t know about setting up your entire team around it; in fact, he himself is pretty much a setup monster. Take a highly dangerous sweeper, and set it up behind Aegis, Leo and Regalion, and NOTHING is going to touch it.
Anyway, i dont like the bomb move. It make you give up on his good passives, and doesnt make sense.
I would ditch any bomb move (including novablast), and give him bloodthirst / stealth all. Make him more offensive or more supportive. Right now he is in between, and just dont make alot of sense.
Okay, it’s not an infallible strategy. But my point is, Regalion is all about support and disruption, and he does not need any setup to do his job. Protecting him isn’t even necessarily a priority for him the way it is with Leogeist, because he’s safe from all killer moves, and you can simply refrain from sealing if there’s an enemy timestriker, or just seal the timestriker.
I think the point about Regalion is it’s got everything it needs with the two passives, Seal and Double Survivor. Megabomb is just the extra option and a brilliant addition to the moveset. Double survivor is already reason enough for the opponent to target it as soon as 300s has passed. Practically every other monster in the game with Survivor or Double Survivor either has HG, death revenge or some other reason stopping an opponent from instantly killing them off once they’ve been alive for 300s. For Regalion there’s nothing stopping them, so it’s safe to say it will become the no.1 target at this point. For that reason, Megabomb gives a great option to quickly grab some more kills before you lose it anyway. If you can protect it effectively then you can make the most out of its double survivor but the option is always there.
I think that if you ever want to kill regalion is for his passives, not his Double Survivor since 80% of the monsters in this game have better sweeping moves (which is totally fine given he is not a sweeper, just pointing out that his double survivor isn’t going to be as dangerous as a real sweeping move)
Anyway i dont know, I will play with him next pvp and try to see if he is actually valuable or just an annoyance for the enemy
Totally agree that Regalion’s active moveset needs a rework.
I think bomb + double survivor don’t make a lot of sense. I’d remove one of them and replace it with a good support move, like protect self, or purify. Seal is ok - not great but fine. 300s with such a low speed is a bit much, but if the above changes, think that’s ok.
Personally I think a moveset that would work really well would be:
Look, I have Regalion. I’ve used him several matches last pvp, and so far he’s been great, performing just as expected. So I just know that a buff isn’t necessary for him to do what he does best.
This looks like a nerf more than a buff. Taking away the double survivor so if you want to keep Regalion alive for the passives you can just spam purify over and over.
I don’t know how people are still going on about this. There are three points of confusion:
Why does it have megabomb when you want to keep it alive?
Why does it have both double survivor and megabomb?
Why is seal 300TU?
1 - Sometimes the passives won’t be doing much so you’ll want him gone. Also, the other moves are a complete moveset by themselves, megabomb is just an extra option later on to “kill” 4 monsters.
2 - Tbh this could have been a single survivor, but they decided to give it double survivor instead. This makes it a very good for sweeping once it’s survived 300s. As mentioned in the previous point, megabomb is the extra option for a quick takedown of the enemy team if Regalion is about to die or you need to kill the enemies suddenly.
Regalion helps out a lot with its passives. Seal turns the match into a 3v3, with the advantage on your side and you can even have your team accelerated if you get the SS. I agree it looks weird but it makes a lot of sense for this monster and gives the opponent time to deal with Regalion before it becomes a strong sweeper with great passives.
Let’s just leave Regalion alone for a couple of months to see how players use it. It can counter many strategies and with both double survivor + megabomb has good damage potential. I look at it like Crimseias who’s a bit of a weird monster that may not look appealing but can combo, battle stun, sweep with survivor and even has the powerful mirror revenge. Doesn’t stand out as overpowered but looks interesting and in practice can be extremely effective.
