didn’t help that they basically reduced the chances of newer players getting accepted into friend lists by changing the last played display.
the new PvP format is also too difficult for many so its off-putting.
whats more they are basically losing the people who would have wanted to play in the past by making it A- too waifu focused and B- too pay to win.
this game has always been pay to win however until the last year or maybe 2 years it has become a lot worse. before it was pay to win however players who were free to play still had the ability to catch up with and beat players who were both skilled and also pay 2 win. now the only free to play players able to beat the top whales are players who have been playing for over 3-4 years.
normally i don’t really care about whether or not someone has paid or not in games. i have spent hundreds in neo myself however in the grand scheme of things im not really a whale (i know because I didn’t unlock all the icons! XD), yet with all the recent additions to the game in terms of insane power creep, hp boosts (even before they were buyable) and other aspects of the game which increase the gap between the top end players and the low end players it wouldn’t surprise me if the devs were finding thier playerbase changing so that they are getting more players for a shorter amount of time.
Now. what can they do about it? not a lot tbh. unless they have a complete overhaul of things like extreme defense and attack buffs along with hp levels of monsters so they become a lot easier for older monsters to kill then there will always be these kinds of issues.
what they seem to be doing at the moment is buffing older monsters to try and bridge the gap rather than weakening the newer ones. while this may make sense in order to sell these new monsters it is short sighted if they want longevity.
that leads me back to what i was saying about having more people trying the game and less staying in it. part of the reason is that they see all these super strong new monsters and end up getting the oldies who are designed to beat non buffed opponents.
They recently buffed a bunch of island monsters - This is the best thing they have done to help newer players - mantisamurai was another. chronozillion and the starter legends require too many materials to actually be useful for someone just starting out.
in terms of keeping new players engaged they need to add some new minor PvE battles like the showdown at old corroleon etc. the reason for this is that they have all these shiny new monsters but none of the new players really get a good opportunity to see what they do and therefore are stuck fighting battles against the less desirable, old monsters which doesn’t help encourage them to keep playing.
the new shop introduced will put off many new players. people aren’t stupid and when they see a game trying this hard to get money they know that its probably not going to be worth it.
it looks especially bad at the moment since the shrine is down. basically saying the only way to get gems etc is to pay for them. the shrine has always been something that feels like its the devs doing something for the players. regardless of pay to win or f2p. however I also think that the shrine was where the game’s skill gap started to increase.
