We need to talk about Soulstealer

Before you grab your pitchforks, this isn’t a straight up “nerf SS” thread. In the last pvp I did matches at top 50 level but also quite a few in the lower ranks, 400-700 points. This range is where SS is really causing a problem.

It comes down to two issues. The first is that his matchup is extremely polarised. If you counter SS (bane, nectareon) you win the front line 100% of the time. If you do not have an answer you will lose the front line 80% of the time. This has forced the meta into either using or countering SS, and to be frank it’s squashing creativity for those that don’t have that many monsters. For most strategies there’s a few ways of going against it, for SS there’s inevitably only one.

The second issue is that too much of his power is based on rng. This is why it feels so bad to lose to him, because it’s just a coin flip that you have no control over. Many just give up if they don’t hit that first sleep, because thats the killer one.

What I think would fix it is to buff the odds of sleep all and lower the speed. Take the power away from rng but reward people for building around it. Right now half the people that use him just stick him in the front because you don’t need to build around him to be effective.

The aim here isn’t to just nerf SS, he needs to be usable, rewarding to build around. But the current iteration is stifling all creativity in the lower ranks and I dare say triggering quite a few players in the process.

So approach the problem from this angle. He cannot be weaker than the current version, only the same or stronger. But less power should be in the rng aspect.

I cant see how thats gonna fix the problem.

The problem is, as you said, is that you forced to use a counter FL or use SS yourself. Making SS slower gonna make the counter more aproachable and easy going, and making sleep all with better % just going to make the counter much more needed, since he will be op as heck. So that will make the problem even bigger.

And sleep all with better % is way to op. Dont forget that a single sleeping monster can destroy your match, FL or not, and right now his sleep all already hits most of the times 2 of your monsters already.

I dont know how to fix his problem. I dont think he needs more buffs or nerfs, just more counters, so people wont use him that often in fl.

Yeah I don’t see how buffing his sleep % but making the tu higher will help. Very rarely does he not hit anything, with boosted odds he is going to hit more often so what good is a higher tu if everything is asleep? I think it would make him more powerful.

I would like to see hold ground removed from him. At least that way you have a better chance of killing him before his BS sleep all hits all 4

Hes fine right now you. More sleep immune guys are on the way

If you remove hold ground from him he becomes absolutely useless as a sleep killer monster will destroy first move.

Sleep immune are trouble, dier with another immune at fl with that yetti will makes silly FL next PvP.
They should bring immune supporter not sweeper.
For ex posion/sleep immune which is purifier.

Edit: for SS how about lowering speed and increasing TU for better % ?
Right now devs gave us SE monster with good passive that counter SS easily. So no need to use bane(as he is leg and some players don’t have him).I suggest to have some stupid OP in game but only few of them.so I’m fan of Deo,Geo,Pengborg, and don’t think we need to Nerf SS(I don’t have these monsters and lost too many match to them but I think we need to have A FEW stupid OP monster in game)

F2P Arash

Exactly. A monster that has the possibility to stop 4 of yours in one move needs to be able to be removed fast. He is always hiding behind a protector then you still have to get him off hold ground whilst sleep all is getting spammed

Actually I have a Soulstealer in my bench team and I don’t know how powerful or weak is Soulstealer in PvP. I think like him, one of the possible solution is more sleep immunity monsters now in the game there’re only Diredemon and Easter egg rabbit. And as Arash said: need be supporter and not sweeper

Tbh i have a SS FL but i never use Sleep All, i use just 1on1 with frostrider
That being said, i agree that he is really an issue, it’s really a coin flip

Well I’m actually in favor of him losing Hold Ground. It will simultaneously make him slightly less effective and as a bonus make the TKs more effective, which is a good thing. A lot of the time it’s hard enough to land one blow on SS with all the protectors and crap, but people are expected to hit him twice, likely while half the team is asleep, not to mention the enemy could easily have a healing move handy to erase what little progress you’ve made. Considering the sheer punch that potent sleep all has, SS should definitely not have so much else going for him. Just look at Goldtail- she has literally nothing whatsoever to offer outside of potent sleep, not even ideal stats. Yet it’s a very powerful monster nonetheless. SS in comparison has high speed, decent bulk, Hold Ground, DSA, and bloodthirst included in the package, and while his sleep move doesn’t have as high odds, they target every single enemy, and still have a fair chance of nailing each one. All this and SS is just a regular legend on the regular wheel, while Goldtail is an event exclusive. That has to say something.

Sorry Buck, cant take this thread seriously without the usual tags. Why isnt Soulstealer harambe  ?

As the veteran’s used to say when Zibkong was around… there are a lot of counters.

I agree with buck.

Currently you have 2 Tickets into 800+. A valid nectareon strat, or Banedragon.

All of the high level teams are SS counter teams in front that can still do other things. As well as anti-poison because of chromera.

The ones that go above 800, those are the ones that 1 have perfect execution, and 2 have a really stellar midgame that is both able to deal with chromera while still being able to use banedragon in an effective way. This is really hard to pull off. But just notice that SS has caused most top level teams to include Banedragon, but then stop there because everyone at rank 30-1 has chromera. So then we get stun, or shivadragon defensive lineups. Or the very occasional sleep midline. But the point is that Soulstealer is causing a ton of damage to team diversity. And in fact nerfing him in that way would actually be a buff. As you would run into less banedragons all the time. And it would open up midgame Banedragon strats as they wouldn’t all be occupying slot #5.

I was on mobile ;_; I shall edit the dank tag memes in on pc just for you

I do all my stuff on mobile.

Also removing the hold ground would work as well, gives some more outs to him

Zard please dont spread wrong facts about top 30 if you are not one of them.

I fight them all the time and score top 30 in pvp events where I decide I want to.

Last pvp I was absent because of excessive network issues. I was unable to play because wifi went out over and over again. I was also experimenting with new teams.

But I am very much in the top 30.

I have been bored with banedragon teams for a while now.

As the 35th best player in the world per the last PVP, I shall sit this one out at your behest. #top30goalz
