lol the PvP will be so bad if things go unchanged. i am basically experiencing what many other peolpe are experiencing. the game was very fun for the first few hours (except for the ridiculous amount of hand-holding through the tutorials) then the fremium aspects really came into play. there is legitimately no way to get any good monsters outside of paying for them. the game is extremely stingy with gem rewards; i one gem for 5 story missions and one gem per island is insane. the entire story mode gives enough for what, three egg rolls? and that gives you no gems left over for ticket refills, which are painfully slow. the biggest issue is that you truly cannot grind for good/rare monsters. without paying, everyone is limited to the EXACT same 200 monsters, which completely kills any chance for a competitive/fair online PvP meta, and from what i have seen from this game i doubt they will have a good system in place for PvP regardless. it’s a shame to see a company that made 2 really outstanding games take such a baffling step backwards. i put many hours into both dragon island and hunter island even without online PvP, and i have already given up on this game having only made it to the second grand four member. i guess i will hold out hope that they change things to make them better, but i highly doubt our concerns will be addressed.
This. It doesn’t matter that they could add monsters in pvp events if the only way to win them will be to throw away money in the legendary egg hunt.
Also the appstore says that you can CATCH 900 monsters and this is totally a false advertinsing (since you can find all them only in the eggs) wich, I remember, is punible by law.
You’ll need to rate it lower in the App Store
The app is cruising to the top of the AppStore and receiving it’s full glory,
Look at the reviews in the App Store , all 5 stars , all 'great game ’ …which I did at first but changed it.
The devs will be pleased with themselves , and say 'wow our app is popluar , we have already pocketed 10,000 pounds in the first few days ; let’s think about maximising our profit ; hmm good idea ; let’s put new legendaries in the egg ( which some ppl would spend ) ; what about the commoners ? ; well they paid 79 p already ; they had their fun ; oh ok .
I did it but we aren’t just enough and developers will continue to ignore us because “we’ll all the other reviews are good so it means it’s brilliant”.
What people do not understand is that this is just a game with legs cut off by the developers, I think because they have the money to spend for the eggs or they are just casual and don’t care much (or maybe they didn’t play the masterjobs that were HI and DI.
I know some of you are upset with the “pay2win” aspect of the game. But look at things this way as well…In Hunter’s Island how many of you spend real money and purchased Gold for eggs? I did one time and never did again because I got monsters I could catch already so it felt like I threw my money away. Now, if I want to spend a few dollars and buy an egg at least I know that I’m getting something for my money.
Yes, there are going to be people that spend a lot and get great monsters or people who get extremely lucky. If someone wants to drop a few hundred dollars more power to them. They SHOULD have better monsters than me. We don’t know anything about PvP yet so maybe they’ll balance some things out but maybe they won’t. Please don’t talk about it being “fair” either. What aspect of your life is fair today? It is fair that someone got lucky on an egg roll and I didn’t? Nope. Is it fair that you’re a smarter player than I am so you always beat me? Nope. Is it fair you have all day to spend catching monsters and I don’t? Nope. Life isn’t fair and if you want an edge find it. If you don’t want to spend your money on the game then don’t. Play it for fun but you’re not going to be a top player most likely and that’s okay! I’m glad that we can’t catch every monster in the game in the wild. Instead of spending $5 on a Happy Meal I can toss $5 at the game and maybe get a legendary.
The game isn’t going to get any better by you withholding your money. If you want them to grow, spend a little on a fun game (still has some flaws). This small company then starts to get what it needs to add staff to grow this game and make it better. Hunter’s Island died because beyond the online missions there was literally NOTHING to do in that game after you beat it and caught the monsters you wanted. There was also ZERO reason to spend money to buy eggs because you could spend 20 minutes and catch that monster anyway. Sure, it sometimes it took awhile but once you did it you were done. Now, because people can’t catch every monster out there teams are going to be 100% different from player to player and while there are some growth blocks at least the game can have some longevity.
Please stop crying about spending $1 on a game and not getting exactly what you wanted. You can barely buy a pack of gum for a dollar anymore and it lasts 10 minutes. If you don’t like the game anymore that’s cool. But let’s be honest, if you’re here complaining about the “pay2win” aspect of the game you were never going to spend a dime on this game after you purchased it anyway. You’re upset because the developers didn’t spend thousands of man hours developing a game to give it to you for $1.
are you dumb ? heavens no it would be okay if maybe 100 of the 900 advertised monsters were only available through the egg, but 700 of the monsters are literally uncatchable. & thats no F***in excuse
I think you didn’t catch the real issue here.
First, you can’t really buy anything with 5€ (or dollars) cause the prices for gems are fair higher.
Second: there are lot of things that aren’t fair in the world, and so? Should I not complain and just be quiet? I am a customer and a client who bought this lingering for the best and found the worst. The other games have the opportunity to everyone to have good monsters and to be competitive, here only people with money (and with incredible luck) and I shouldn’t say anything? Doesn’t work like that, pal.
They ruined the game because they wanted more cash and money, people already bought eggs in the old game because you were able to find S grade monsters and strong monsters easily than in other ways.
People that like to use and buy in-app purchases will always do that because they have money and they’re willing to use it that way.
I paid for this and I expected a full game, not a cut, broken and p2w one.
I would have gladly paid more to have a full access app instead of this sad moneygrabber…thing.
Also the advertising is false and this is something it really insult a person who is gonna buy the product and find something else. 900 monsters all catchables? 60 hours gameplay? For god sake, where?
P.s. To the other guy: please avoid insulting others, let’s try to have a quiet discussion here.
Asking someone if they are dumb is sort of a loaded question. But, to answer you I would consider myself a person of average intelligence. In the future though I would suggest doing some research before you attempt to insult someone. If you look IN THE GAME UNDER THE MONSTERDEX you’ll notice that approximately every page has monsters in a variety of different stars. Each step in the evolution tree is counted as a monster in the ticker. Everything under three stars is catchable because there is no option to purchase those. EVERY monster in the game has multiple evolution, they count each one as a different monster because technically it is.
So they advertised 900 monsters which is true but because each monster has 2 to 4 evolution I’d say you’re probably looking closer to 300 final evolution monsters you can obtain. So, that means that they let catch probably 100 of the 300 final evolutions FOR the $1 you paid. Furthermore, they give everyone access to ALL the monsters because they give away free gems. Do they give you enough to get all of them? No but none of the monsters are off limits for you. It depends on luck, time spent on the game and money.
Seriously, though how many threads are you going to comment on or start with the same topic? All I see is a little child who is sad he can’t afford to buy every monster in the game. They never told you that would be possible you just assumed and now are upset. Get over it, you get free gems all the time and if you want every monster in the game unless you’re going to pay for it…it’s going to take a long time and a lot of luck. Sorry.
$3.99 gets you 6 gems which is more than enough to buy one epic monster. The developer basically values a gem at $.66 cents each and gives you a discount if you buy in bulk. Each time they give away a gem they are giving you $.66 cents in value.
If you paid $1 to buy the game you get… A free epic monster or better (valued at $.66 times 5 gems = $3.30) Probably another 15 gems or more throughout the campaign (15 gems times $.66 = $9.90 in value). So, they did give you a good deal on the game (they gave you over $10 in the game for $1) and if you want to get more monsters they’d like you to pay for it.
It blows my mind that people come on these forums and expect businesses to give away their products. What would you do for $1? How long would you work for? They’ve been working on this game for years?!? Yes, you spent $1 on a game. Do you know that apple takes a cut of that? I believe it’s somewhere in the neighborhood of 20%. But even if apple took nothing they’d need the product to be downloaded over a million times before they had enough to break even (I’m of course guessing on their break even point but I know from my business experience it’s close to that). The employees who spent time developing this game I’m assuming would like to be paid so they can feed their families and continue to go to work and improve and make better games.
I have no problem with customers voicing their opinion. I just get personally a little disgusted when people come on these forums and expect the company to give them everything for free (or $1 in this instance which is next to nothing). Seriously?! Are you complaining about not having enough content for $1? I just spent $1.25 on a soda and it lasted me ten minutes. I’ve been playing this game for days.
Math is fun.
I would agree with you I don’t see the 60 hours of gameplay but I believe there are 900 monsters. I explained this in the above comment. If you enjoy the game spend a few bucks on it. Maybe you get lucky maybe you don’t. If you don’t enjoy it just delete and think of it like you just drank yourself a long soda and move on.
Calm down people. Better catchable arks will be released with new story chapters. The epics on the current last island are already pretty good and will only improve in future chapter releases. Story is completely beatable with a transfer legendary and a few solid epics plus the good 1-2 stars. It blows my mind that people are already complaining about pvp before it’s even released. Don’t be surprised everything isn’t immediately available, god forbid they make some money from people who want to spend.
One suggestion I have for pvp is to make different formats that restrict point value and monster rarity. Most competitive collectible games have this system in place in order to allow everyone to enjoy pvp. For example, the most restricted format could only allow 50 value of arks with no super epics or legends. This will encourage players to build teams and come up with unique strategies for each format, while allowing everyone to participate on an even footing. This will also have the effect of making all rarities valuable in pvp, so it won’t be as much of a disappointment to roll epics instead of the more desirable arks.
This game has a surprising amount of depth and reaching a reasonable compromise with the devs is the best way to keep it alive (remember, game developers have to eat too!).
Well, this is your opinion and I accept it.
Still if they really wanted the money they could have published the game for 4/5 $, 4$ for a egg (in which you could also find only an epic monster) is just too much and I really doubt someone would want to spend more than 10 bucks on gems. What they did is a punch in the stomach of the customers and fans that had always faith in them. It would be okay if legendary would be very difficult to catch like in the previous games but this…this is just a joke, a game made by people who didn’t put any love for their product in it but only the will to make easy money.
P.s. sorry for my bad english, not my main language unluckily.
The devs made an entire 360 with this game. At first it was promising & I enjoyed it but as you progress to about the third island you start realizing that they pretty much force you to buy gems & open eggs or never get any good monsters. Unlike in hunter island where you could grind & catch every monster, They locked pretty much every good monster behind eggs that you have to pay for gems to get them. They also added acouple strange mechanics that make things even worse, instead of you being able to battle & level your monsters up like any other NORMAL R P G, monsters now get training sessions (which they can run out of) the only way to get sessions back is by using de aging fruit, de aging fruit is locked behind silver & gold keys that you only get 3 of & it takes 24 hours to replenish 1 key, unless(you see where im going with this) you use GEMS to get the keys back you also get energy, energy is miniscule & entering de aging fruit dungeons cost about 15 energy so you only get 1 chance & get 3 fruits, If you want to replenish your energy it costs (guess what) GEMS. & it sucks because behind it is a nice strategy game, & it can be fun especially in the beginning, but the de aging key energy GEM aspect of the game is what ruins it completely you cant get anything in this game without gems. & it took what made prior games so great & threw that out the window, to the devs, I say if it aint broke DONT FIX IT, I know you heard of tht saying, dont defend the game just because YOU got lucky & pulled acouple legendaries . the only people backing this game got lucky & pulled legendaries OR paid for the gems & pulled legendaries Understand it TOOK you & whoever else paid for gems no skill to get any legendaries.
I respect your opinion and I understand you don’t want to spend money on the game and that’s cool. I just think we as individuals are so funny when it comes to money. We’ll drop 10 bucks to see a movie for two hours but we won’t spend $4 to get something that you’ll have and be able to enjoy for the next year. It’s all perspective I guess.
its different & ill tell you why these devs blessed us & gave us great games in the past, so when they strip that away & all of a sudden after 2 great games give us this cash grab because thats what it is a cash grab its like F the fans, i didnt mind buying eggs in hunter island I definitely did, but it wasnt neccessary that you did they made this game impossible unless you buy gems to buy eggs to pull the better monsters which are all locked behind gems
You guys are missing the biggest issue. They took everything that made hunter island and dragon island great and crapped all over it. The animations slow down the battles. The good monsters aren’t catchable. You are hindered on leveling. There are now wait times. If you get to a point where you can’t advance the story or online part due to difficulty due to your weak monsters, then you have NOTHING TO DO EXCEPT WAIT OR SPEND MONEY. They took out all the good parts of the island series and added all the bad parts of the candy crush pay to play model. Being able to beat the game is not the point. They RUINED what was good about the island series. I didn’t have to spend a cent on the past two games and they were great all the way through. I never got bored or had to wait to catch a powerful monster or level up.
I agree
If I’d follow your logic (and I kinda understand it) I’d have really no problem spending 5 euros for one egg.
One of the many problems that the game have though it is that you will almost never find anything good within one damn egg and ONE EGG costs 5 DAMN euros.
And even if I’d find a super epic or legendary that wouldn’t change much things because there will be people that paid 100€ with only legendary in the team and that have access to all the monsters.
I’ll stay true, I gladly prefer to spend 10€ to go out with friends eating, drinking a beer or watching a movie that to buy things from these developers.
I’d prefer spending money on full worthy games for 40-50 bucks.
I’d prefer spending money on in app purchases of quality in free games or app to support good developers.
I’d even could rarely spend money on additional purchases found in paid games if they are worth the price and it could help nice developers.
But I won’t NEVER spend a dime in rubbish like this when the developers made a pay to win, money grabber title like this.
This is messing with the faith of customers and totally ignore a quality product just to see your profits raising.
The question should be: how much money would one have to spend to get every monster in the game? Is that number a number that accurately speaks to the value of the game?
Of course the developers have to make money and no one should expect to be given everything for free. However, developers should draw a line. There’s a balance you must find between getting players to spend money and making them feel the game is outright greedy. If you go past that line, it will turn people away from the game and the money earned will fall.
I’m of the opinion that a quality designed game brings money naturally as a side effect. Developing skinner box mechanics is an easy, lazy way to try to suck money out of people as it is. That’s not quality design. But to make such a large percentage of the monsters unavailable?
These monsters must be released through new content in future updates, if this issue is to be solved. People will pay money even if all of them are freely available - and they’ll probably pay more than they will now.
Just think of other games, such as DragonVale. Everything in DragonVale is freely available if you’re patient enough. The only thing you spend money on is time - speeding things up. And it works. DragonVale does very well financially. Makes you wonder why, right? Honestly, there are many games that are great examples of IAPs done right that are very successful. There’s no excuse here.
The problem with them is that they don’t put any legendaries out to hunt , any super epics to hunt. So yeah.
They should start putting them out soon.
Let’s hope.
Yes, I suppose Dragonvale was not a good example. The model works for what it was designed for, but certainly shouldn’t apply to this game (which I wasn’t suggesting, either).
I was simply suggesting that people will pay money to speed up progress, despite knowing they don’t “have” to pay money to get all the content in the game.
Fundamentally, the game needs to be designed such that people spend money because they enjoy spending money, not because they feel like they have to spend money. In this game, it’s “I have to spend money to get all monsters” or “I have to spend money to be even fairly okay at PvP”. That’s bad!
Even if they do add legendaries in the wild the open world aspect hunter island had is completely gone & the maps & dungeons are all one dimensional trash its just not the same & the more I play it the more I realize it man
The fact is that they can even fix one issue with the game, but for one solved there are millions of other things bad or broken. They should fix many things, not just if you can catch legendary and super epics out in the wild.
