Is anyone else getting tired of these Special PvP Rules? It’s rather tiresome each and every PvP, for the majority of it, having to play under restrictions that don’t actually contribute to Ranked PvP. The previous Rule of a monster of each element with a max of 12 was taxing in and of itself, now this Rule requires 8 Epics to be used in a team. Not “Epic or Lower,” just 8 Epic monsters. There is little to no diversity for this. Here’s why:
The majority of Epic monsters are clones of eachother in multiple Elements. All the Give Turn, Stun Bomb, and Protect Epics are all the same, as are the Throw/Bloodcrave Epics. The only bit of diversity we get is with the Poison Epics, mostly with their Entrance effects differing slightly and having access to either a LINK Double Poison Water or Poison Storm, both with such high TU it’s not worth running without a dedicated team.
Now we look at these epics, and they don’t have much of any variance, so with these choices, people will do one of 3 strategies based on the Epics - Give Turn spam, Stun Lock, or Poison.
With the recent Poison nerfs and Poison Epics generally being weak, the vast amount of Chrono Killer monsters we have access to, and considering the basic thought process of effectiveness being “Stun your opponent to oblivion and you win the game”, can anyone guess what appears to be the strategy of choice?
Yes, it’s Stun Lock.
Don’t get your panties in a bunch, this isn’t a Stun Hate thread nor a call for nerf to Stun. I’m using Stun too! Yay! And it’s very… Boring. Boring is the right word for it. There is littlw thought or strategy going on, it’s virtually “kill the opponents stun protection and stun them into oblivion before they do the same to you.” It’s mirror matches all over the place. The exceptions to this have been seeing Canishogun users who easily have the biggest advantage this rule.
This rule, the previous Rule, and the one before that and before that, keep making, at least me, feel handcuffed and forced to play this game in a specific way instead of using teambuilding ideas and doing things how I would like to do them. I feel like I’m being pushed into a corner and have to adopt one of these strategies to win, and it just takes a lot of the fun and creativity out of the game.
FURTHERMORE, I feel the Special Rules have contributed to a more stable meta in PvP in general. Having the majority of PvP be using a Special Rule with only (3 I think?) Days during the “second half” to play using a normal team to get a ranking is stupid. Noone is getting any time to test their ranked teams strategy before going into competition time. It’s very similar to going out and practicing riding your bicycle everyday for a month then on the last day you take your Drivibg Exam. Legit makes no sense to me.
To consolidate, reiterate, and finish off this topic, this isn’t a complaint against this rule in particular, this is a complaint from a very long time of annoying Special Rules that don’t add creativity to the game it just gives a boone to the players with the larger collections, makes PvP during the Special Rules incredibly boring, and does nothing to help contribute to Ranked PvP team building or practice, and this creates the same hyped up meta teams duking it out in PvP with the same most used and overused monsters over and over.
