Yeah I get that it was a throwaway joke meme, but I opened the thread purely out of interest to see peoples thoughts, especially as discussion was starting to unfold on the meme thread. It might be how people define overkill. But seeing as a protector in the FL is certainly still viable as I proved this PvP, it’s not overkill, just a strong nerf.
Yes having one protector is still viable…I ran Stag in the FL as well. Seperate point to overkill though.
At the moment I’m using zero protectors in the FL…
To me, overkill would be if using a protector (or two) is not viable at all due to an over heavy nerf. AP spam has been obliterated which it needed, yet Protectors are still viable, therefore the devs achieved the intended purpose.
AP abuse really happened when we combined it with Bloom, Stag and Duscy. Actually Bloom tipped it over the top. There were other ways to stop that. Also I don’t even agree they needed to obliterate it (weaken it yes) It was an overrated strategy. And risky as well. Many people found counters before the nerf. It was getting weaker each day even Pre-nerf. It wasn’t as strong as people said. It was more a frustrating experience. But I put that down to the RNG. These are facts. RNG made it a particularly negative gameplay experience. It pissed me off as well even though I used it. Always was RNG though that made me want to break the phone. Wasting my Delugazers SS Chrono killer on a stag because Titan wasn’t a guarantee hit was annoying. Vice versa with Stag.
True story: I was waiting for the RNG to get fixed and was going to build an AP spam counter strategy the moment they did. It would have included BB In the FL along with fire mythic. I was gonna surprise people. Well that fun plan got killed… Because people don’t even use it anymore.
Interestingly @Unown built a very effective counter to AP spam pre Nerf. His mortar team wiped it out. More and more counters were emerging. People were adapting. Players got smarter and better. It was beautiful.
Oh well…
Players will always find a way around strategies, but some aspects of this one couldn’t be stopped like targeting. The game is better off now anyway
onto the next
Not sure why the aspect of Targeting couldn’t be stopped. I’m sure devs could have done it.
I meant by players during the game
Oh trust me, it was more than just the rng. A few people figured out that a continuous stream of APs was a convenient way of keeping the monsters in front of them alive most of the time. It was a very lazy, brain dead strategy that got them far more mileage than it had any right to. Part of the motivation to nerf it was because people were getting results with very little team building effort. Not to say that AP spam teams can’t sometimes be well designed, it’s just that the whole fundamental concept of AP spam is a pretty low effort way to prolong your key monsters’ lives. So giving players the ability to call that out if they’re willing to try it every once in a while I think is very healthy for the game. (Please note that what I specifically described wasn’t really top players making use of it but rather lower leveled players that really do nothing but cram as many APs in as possible)
And lemon and I remain as testaments to how effective protectors can still be. We’ve both accepted the risk of twig appearing at the wrong moment, and know we have no right to be mad when it does. The more abusive you are with protectors the more twig hurts you, so with only 2 he doesn’t exactly secure a guaranteed loss for us immediately, even with perfect timing.
Trust me the RNG was the problem. As a user of AP spam and playing against it. RNG was literally the main issue. Getting rid of that would have done absolute wonders. I lost games and witnessed people lose games against me because my freaken Stag blocked their Chrono killer on my Titan.
Something so simple was actually huge.
And no it was not brain dead it was the most intelligent strategy in neo history. Only the best can use it.
What about those who countered it?

I countered it as well😊
I never said rng wasn’t a problem at all. Only that there was the additional problem of being forced to kill several APs before the main threats could be targeted, which often was an absolute chore and felt like a constant uphill battle. The targeting BS aside, those teams were simply unfun to fight against.
Question: is anyone asking for a refund of awakened mythic protector and/or 12-ticket buffalo?
