The tragic failure of the restriction list aka Variety is dead

You could at least try to pretend that you read my post lol.

I say get rid of the monsters period lol

I’ve always been against it and I’m not going to change my opinion.

It is not that they all run the same ??? So why do they complain? . Run the counter and voila Win against everyone. It’s easy right?

In response to Sherlock’s thread.

Remove the restriction list and let everyone play in peace as they wish

There’s no counter to that lol

If there is, I didn’t lose to more than two dolphin teams or cargo last season

For example, dolphins only kill specific things. So I often remove the green (Jungleflipper)and then take my time to kill the rest as appropriate.

The issue with this is that you could just ā€˜use’ said monsters for throw/cannibalize/parasitic curse fodder, and not actually use them

A better system would be something like ā€œgain 50 rpm for each kill x monster getsā€(though this would obviously be exploitable)

In that case, you wasted a slot on your team which could’ve been occupied by a better monster.

Optimizing your team cost is VERY important and using a 10+ cost Throw/Cannibalize fodder instead of a 0 cost one (Boxjaw) means that your team is most likely gonna underperform, compared to what you could actually do.

But a free 50 to every game could make the difference

I would love for the cost to be unlimited, max 16 monsters and max 5 mythical

Hey so I didn’t want to get into a big debate about stuff where I give my opinion and we don’t go anywhere. Instead I decided to go look at the PvP reports and do some serious analysis. I’ll be honest, I don’t agree with this whole ā€œthe restriction list is bad for the game, monster groups are bad for the game, there is less diversityā€.

We’ve had 7 months with the restriction list now so I combined together data from the 7 months to compare to the 7 months before the restriction list.

Let’s have a look…

Most used early 2021:
7x Angelion, Moku, Padrinorca
6x Infernicorn
5x Novadrake
4x Ahuizard, Dusicyon, Polaboss, Scorpiogeist, Spectrefox (s)
3x Bloomeluga, Flarevern, Flocculasaurus, Leogeist
1x Deathgazer, Freezecobra, Jaguardian, Raizen, Tricranium, Vigziarid

Front line early 2021:
7x Jaguardian, Polaboss
6x Padrinorca
5x Bloomeluga
4x Dusicyon, Leogeist, Spectrefox (s)
3x Cynthia, G.F. Sunflower, Glaciaron, Tricranium
2x Aegisdragon, Aurodragon, Delugazar, Freezecobra, Jocodragon, Scarleguard, Twighoul
1x Ahuizard, Bomboid, Canishogun, Plumesilisk, Raizen, Skeleviathan, Wraithhost

Most used late 2021 (restriction list):
7x Padrinorca, Spectrefox (s)
6x Angelion
5x Dusicyon, Wraithhost
4x Chromera, Infernicorn
3x The Penguinator, Valzareign
2x Deathgazer, Dolphoone, Dolphreeze, Freezecobra, Jungleflipper, Leogeist, Polaboss, Raizen, Scorpiogeist, Tricranium
1x A.S. Poseidon, Ahuizard, Dolphoenix, Magmarinus, Novadrake, Searguard

Front line late 2021 (restriction list):
7x Jaguardian
6x Spectrefox (s)
4x A.S. Poseidon, Aurodragon, G.F. Sunflower, Padrinorca, Skeleviathan
3x Polaboss, Wraithhost
2x Auraleus, Dolphoone, Dolphreeze, F.D. Iris, Kattmmander, Nauticruiser, Raizen, Scarleguard, Terragar, Ziberius
1x Ankoudragon, C.W. Ater, C.W. Roseus, Delugazar, Demontoad, Dragulus, Dusicyon, Nulltron, Plumesilisk, Spikiestornado, Tricranium

So let’s put that together…

Total monsters making top 10 most used:
Early 2021 = 20
Late 2021 = 25

Total monsters making top 10 front line:
Early 2021 = 25
Late 2021 = 30

That means there is an extra 20-25% monsters being ā€œmetaā€ monsters with the restriction list, clearly seen in both front line and generally. More monsters getting on there indicates more diversity.

Total monsters being in 3+ top 10 most used:
Early 2021 = 14/20 = 70%
Late 2021 = 9/25 = 36% (45% equivalent - adjusted for increase in total monsters)

Total monsters being in 3+ top 10 front line:
Early 2021 = 11/25 = 44%
Late 2021 = 9/30 = 30% (36% equivalent)

Here you can see the effect of the restriction list in pushing out the most used monsters. There’s a large drop in how many monsters are constantly staying popular, they’re moving in and out of the top 10 based on the meta and whether they’re restricted. Just look up at the early 2021 most used monsters and you’ll see it there too… some monsters achieving a place one season but none getting two seasons then a group of monsters which are in the top 10 for 3-7 seasons (the stale meta of the time before the restrictions).

The restriction list is also causing more diversity in front lines, although less noticeably than pushing the generally most used out.

The restriction list is not the only thing creating a positive increase in diversity. New monsters help open up more opportunities for diversity, as long as they’re designed at the right power level. However, when you look at the huge changes in how many monsters are getting into top 10 lists many times (3+ in 7 months) it seems to be very effectively getting monsters cycling in and out of the meta, especially in their general use. So I think it’s wrong to say that the restriction list and ā€œmonster groupsā€ are causing things to go stale.

A few monsters that have been super popular for the last 14 months:
Jaguardian - Top 10 for FLs every season!
Angelion and Spectrefox (s) - Top 10 most used basically every season (Spectre also every season for FLs). This obviously makes sense as stun protection.
Padrinorca - Top 10 most used every season. Restriction list got it dropping out of FL list a bit.
A couple of others that were very popular before the restriction list but dropped a lot (either from meta changes or the list)

Ill strongly disagree its not the list that caused the increase in diversity , its the ridiculous bond passives . With or without list , current meta most definitely would hav been these archtype spams .

I appreciate the careful reading of my post. Always nice to see an informed opinion and not the usual general ā€œX in the meta is a problemā€ we’ve seen over and over again for years.

Btw if you cut out Poseidon and the dolphins from the data it still holds true to what I’m saying.

This is why I don’t understand the hatred against the dolphins and posiedon. Like I understand asking a nerf for the dolphins but in 16-monster slot game, having 2-4 archetypes aren’t the biggest problem in our meta, is it?

I hope archetypes don’t consume the whole team then we will have a problem but right now, people are just too upset.

fence is the first time I like this post season summary, I think it’s true

Imo the dolphins and poseidon should be nerfed because they’re too powerful and oppressive, just like mons like sunflower were in the past. Having archetypes like FDs, AS, dolphins and such is not a bad thing unless they become too powerful. When that happens, nerfing them just like any other single monster strategy would be the correct choice.

All that needs to be done is deciding whether the archetypes in question are too strong and how to nerf them if they are

I wouldn’t mind nerfing these, but rather it gives me the impression that you just can’t counteract them, it’s a strategy with quite a few weaknesses in both cases
