but ironically it does the opposite. Gorgodrake has a 13% chance to literally off himself.
I don’t know if that ties into his lore, or is that a balancing mechanic.

It was a balancing mechanic. Along with the design of Novadrake where it loses HP every attack and everything is low TU they designed Gorgodrake which also has low TU for everything and a chance to die every attack. It was originally designed to be a legendary but then mythics became a new part of the game and it was selected to become upgraded into a mythic before its release.
Na’turgoul was designed at the same time. Similar idea… low TU moves but sacrifices a monster every attack. Thankfully they haven’t returned to this concept since except for Kirina because low TU attacks are crazily strong and controlling so the designs only work if the drawback is very big.
