I stood at the edge of the volcano, smelling the toxic gas exuded by lava. To me it smelled like sweet, sweet malice. It wasn’t long before the cursed light and voice appeared to me, from above. It was Angelon. Some how, it was half a roar and half a song. “Zealus, the time has come for your punishment…”
Light flashed, and I was transported to the edge of a cliff overlooking an unfamiliar cove, that was far in the distance. The words echoed in my mind… “find Marthis and kill her. Question her new slaves, then kill them. Do not interfere with the flame. Obey me, and your crimes will be forgiven. Your power will be returned, and your empathy will be restored.”
I tried to plead, but only in my mind. I am innocent. My empathy is complete. I can only do as the flame commands…take your misplaced justice and self-righteousness elsewhere, or your ashes will belong to me!
At some point I had begun roaring. Angelon was gone…well, that was not true. That fiend was always waiting, watching, or plotting…but it no longer mattered. Returning to my senses, I crouched low and sniffed the air, as I slowly walked down the craggy edges towards my goal. I started to run, my body tense and ready for the hunt. “Ill play along, for now.” I mumbled. “After all, one must know the rules before one can bend them…”
The night had drawn in slowly but as I awoke I stretched out my wings, heating my muscles after the cold night. I made my way outside. There was still a chill in the air but the sun would be breaking through the trees soon so I swiftly flew up onto the higher trees, spreading my wings to embrace the warm glow as th sun rose across the dense jungle.
Zest and his beowolf friend were still asleep and up here in the silence, I had the chance to think about last night. Something had sparked in my mind.
I had such a great memory if my childhood with Zest but something was missing. I had no memory of anything between then and this island. I couldn’t even remember how I made it here, and I had never realised until now. Searching my memories, my mind was whirling around.
Suddenly, I had another flash of visions. It was like I had suddenly unlocked something my mind had locked away. I too, like Cerus, belonged to a human! Memories of our explorations drowned my senses. Investigating dungeons, running through forests, camping atop the volcanoes, it was all so vivid! I couldn’t remember anything else but at least I had somewhere to start.
I made my way den to discuss it more with the beowolf before Zest woke up. He seemed quite scared last night and I didn’t want to put him through any more confusion than he already had.
The sunlight was so bright, it pierced straight through my eyelids.
I snarled in irritation and shifted my body so it wouldn’t bother me, but once I wake up, I never could go back to sleep.
Grumbling angrily, I crawled outside, making a careful effort not to wake up Cerus. Quite coincidentally, I spotted Marthis coming back to her cove. I hadn’t noticed her absence.
“Where did you go?” I asked, trying to keep my suspicion from showing.
(thank you, i hope everybody enjoys my contributions as much as I enjoy theirs)
I stopped and looked skyward. the smell perforated my nostrils, though i had not the energy to invesigate. Where i was now was not too dense, but in the direction of the cove, the woods became a forest. If i went in, I would lose the ability to see my target while she flew, assuming she was anything like I imagined. Still, the hunt was on and the only direction i could go now was forward, to the cove i had been shown. I sniffed and picked up the slack i had fallen into over night bringing myself back in step with my hurried, raspy breath.
I finally identified that quaint smell as the sea. “When had gotten close to the sea?” I wondered. “Where had this blasted worm brought me?”
As I neared the cove again I seen Zest breaking through the entrance, shielding his eyes.
“Where did you go?” He asked tentatively, obviously not wanting to wake Cerus but with a tension grasping his voice too. I quickly walked over.
“I had to gather myself together. What Cerus said last night, it sparked something. I realised I don’t remember anything between us playing and being younglings, and being on this island. Everything was missing, until now.” I figured I should explain to him, he looked concerned, “I, I too once belonged to a human”
Another flash hit me. Looking into Zest’s vivid eyes, the vision was undeniably real. We were playing in the tall grass, and had ventured out beyond our usual distance. That’s when it. happened, that’s why his eyes were my trigger, they were the last thing I seen. My last memory was the mortal fear in his eyes as a dense, heavy net fell over me.
I looked up, his eyes, fixed on me as I ran towards him, throwing my arms around him as I fell to my knees.
“It was while we were playing. You seem him taking me! Have you-” my throat choked,“Have you been searching for me all this time?”
“What are you talking about,” I breathed, even though it didn’t sound like a question. I really didn’t know what she was talking about.
“What are you saying?” I said again, this time more harshly. I looked away from her. “You know what you did… to us. To me. I don’t know why you’re suddenly all nice to me now, but I’m not falling for it!”
My voice cracked in the middle of all of this. I was so glad I decided to look away. I didn’t want her to see the tears of hurt and betrayal that began to gather in my eyes.
“You seen me being taken, didn’t you? It’s not like I wanted to leave, that decision wasn’t mined to make,” I sobbed as my grip around him tightened. “Zest, I’m sorry!”
I stiffened and slid into a dead stop when I heard that shout. It came from a diffrent direction than I had anticipated. I wanted to ambush her in the cove, from above, but if she had gone back into the woods then I needed a new plan. I relaxed and strained my ear, slowly taking in a breath.
“Zest im sorry!”
I shot forward like a missile, kicking dirt up behind me.
I knew exactly where my prey was. It wouldn’t be long now.
I hope this greenwing was ready to meet the flame.
“What do you mean, taken?” I screamed. “You left with them! You said right to my face that you hated me and that you were going to kill all of us! What did we ever do to you, huh?”
Hearing myself saying it for the first time in a long time, I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I began to cry-- no, bawl. It was embarrassing. Humiliating, almost.
“I tried so hard to be your friend!” I snarled. “You were always better than me in everything! I kept wondering why you stuck with someone as pathetic as me. Is it because you wanted to rule over me, because I was so weak? So you could just break my heart and leave like… like I wasn’t anything?”
((Jeez, so dramatic! But I like that stuff.))
((Basically there is a main antagonist here. Apparently Cerus and Marthis have already met the bad guy, and lost their memories. Zest has not met the bad guy. What I’m thinking is that Cerus and Marthis was kidnapped by the antagonist because they were very strong, and Zest, being quite weak, was left alone. I’m making it that one of the bad guys probably cast a spell or a something when they kidnapped Marthis, so that’s why Zest is saying all that. It’s not something that actually happened.))
Through my tears, I saw a dot of red. Quickly, I blinked them away, and I could barely make out the shape of a lavaraptor, with eyes that were malicious-- very malicious.
I gaped for a few seconds, and then I screeched, “MARTHIS!” and tried to push her away.
I had intended the bulk the bulk of the forest to hide my tiny form, but it was no matter. Intimidation was the course to take now.
I sped up and skipped a step, preparing to pounce.
I buckled my needs, sucked in my gut, and let out a magnificent roar. (or so I thought - it was rather raspy and didnt sound at all like a roar. more like a strange laugh)
The fire in my eyes blazed as I pounced with my mouth wide open towards the greewing, my jaw blocking my view, my aim was false…
I heard a rush behind me and immediately let go of Zest, rapidly turning around. Just down the stream, I seen a rush of red and yellow coming straight for us. It was a lavaraptor, and he had a target and it was one of us.
I quickly snapped out of my mood, I could tell Zest more once we were out of danger. I reached around zest and flew up into the canopy. As we reached the canopy I looked down, the lavaraptor’s gaze firmly fixed on me. It’s eyes were a stunning violet, just like the other monsters we had seen on the island. I looked closer. On its hind, there was a glowing red mark, a squiggle.
This vulcaraptor must be with the other creatures, they must all be related in some way. But how?
((Hey, are you guys okay with the plot I outlined or do you disagree? I can’t roleplay without a general plot, but I want the plot to appeal to everyone.))
((I figure the beowolf and I belonged to the same owner but we escaped before the branding process somehow and he has sent other things out to kill us as we are now a threat to him. How we got on this mysterious island is a mystery though))
