Hunter Island Fix and New Game:

Hm, really? :s I could’ve sworn I heard something about an update that brought new monsters into DIB, but I’m not entirely sure.

Whatever it is, I hope HI keeps going on. Not going to lie, I like HI better than DIB by far haha.

Maybe it did like I said I never played it. I just think it’s well to early to bring a new game out when this has such potential when the issues in the game at the moment are dealt with and making a new game isn’t the way to deal with it when so many people like this game. The devs would kick themselves if they released a new one and it didn’t catch on aswell as this when all they had to do was keep updating this

Their games kind of build on each other, though. They’re not like completely different games. Still, people will lose all the progress they got in this game and people don’t like that.

Would be nice if progress could carry over at least.

I agree with y’all; took the words straight out of my mouth.

Or, uh, most of them anyway.

Yeah the did release an update for dib but it took a long time. I had deleted the game and waited quite a few months and started over on it.
And dropdoc, your picture couldnt be more accurate lol

Yeah, sounds like DIB all over again. Maybe an update is coming and thats the end of it.

Here’s the thing:

The Devs are of the mindset that games shouldn’t go on forever. They have to have an end. Yes, stuff can be added but even that should be limited as well.

That’s part of the reason why they’ve moved on from DIB and will eventually move on from HI. Yes, both are good games and they have their issues, but in the end, they have an ending.

Continuing to put an effort into something that technically ended just sounds counterproductive to me. Plus, if I were in their shoes, I’d like to continue challenging myself and making better games, rather than just focusing on one game that is severely limited without having to rewrite the entire code for said game to improve it.

Just a thought

TLDR; I don’t like false hope.

I agree with this to a point. That should be outlined in the game as it stood before I paid my 99¢… I personally am a huge fan of Brave Frontier. This game has daily dungeon updates, weekly updates for content and monthly recode and submit the app updates. It’s also free. With IAP that you aren’t in any way required to do just to get further in the game. But I digress, if they are going to let HI go to the wayside, here are a few points I’d have issue with…

  1. Pvp having such a ‘short’ end to it. In reality, it is short in that with 2 months of casual gameplay, you can have everything.

  2. The devs talk about post game content, and even the moderators, whom (no offence) are kept out of the coding progress loophole are kept in the dark about post game, this making us think there is more coming.

  3. The lead-on that the devs ‘may’ be producing more content.

But Hunter Island is so young. I would like to see it continue on for a year or two more, at the least. I understand what you’re saying but it’s just so, so early.

Agreed

I’m of the opinion that games shouldn’t come to an end unless progress can be carried over to the future ones. I hate the idea of losing all the stuff I put into a game.

" rather than just focusing on one game that is severely limited without having to rewrite the entire code for said game to improve it."

… or write from scratch the entire code for the new game? There’s no less work involved with making the new game. And in a way, they are still re-writing the code. They use the same engine for all their games.

Still, sometimes it’s not sensible to make large fundamental, structural changes to a game and that’s why a new game gets made (because the changes are so large that they would essentially turn the game into a whole new game, and that could make a lot of players upset. So they figure allow both games to exist). In these situations, though, there should be a mechanism by which at least some progress can be transferred over so as to ensure all players stay satisfied.

I do agree that at least the stats should move over, if nothing else.

Maybe Gearwolf, because I REALLY like Gearwolf

Not EVERYONE got a gearwolf, no need to rub it in :sob: jk but yes i agree with kook its still very young and i dont want this, i dont want a game with maybe 2-3 updates to it then they just drop it, that would be horrible imo when it has so much more potential

But is that any different from console games?

They get maybe a few updates then they’re done.

Let’s take The Last of Us on PS3.

Fantastic game but only one update/DLC and that is because it was meant to end.

There are maybe two or three games that I play that go on forever, theoretically.

We can all make the arguments that iOS games are meant to be different but they’re really not.

They’re quick games that are meant to be played on the go.

Don’t get me wrong, it has a large universe that I personally would love to see explored but maybe when they make the sequel to it, maybe we’ll see more.

It’s meant to be however the developer wants it to be. And as a developer myself, my philosophy is: make the game in such a way to where players are happiest. Are they happy when a game they love ends? No? Then I shouldn’t make the game that way. Or, I can figure out a way to keep them happy while making a new game (such as carrying progress over, if it’s a very similar type of game).

And I think that’s how these developers should look at it.

And that’s fair but I think dragging out a game forever is kinda…meh.

Allowing transfers of stuff for future games, I can get behind. It’s part of the reason Pokemon has had a massive following for years.

Well it depends on the type of game. Some games really can’t be dragged out that long just due to the nature of how they are. A game like Hunter Island I can totally see being dragged out. Add new types of monsters, new abilities, new lands to explore, new functionality… new quests, new types of features.

I dunno, this just feels like it’s not totally…finished.

Yes, it’s a finished product but I don’t think its at the maximum level the Devs should or could be at.

Yes, you could drag this game out and continue adding things but it just doesn’t seem…right.

I feel like the next game is going to be the game that gets dragged out and as it should

Well… I mean, no matter how you make a game, there’s always tons of improvement that can be made for it. That’s where updates come in. Maybe at least they can make the next game in a way to where it’s easily updatable and expandable.
