3.4 Update Opinion
Very much a nothing burger update for me. It is nice to see so many bugs getting fixed, and the improved filter options are definitely welcome, especially the Negate tag and the new AND/OR mechanic.
As for the actual monster balance changes, I expected way more.
Veylora
Yuck. These changes feel almost purely cosmetic to me.
I really dislike what they did with her skills. 300 seconds from battle start, 400 seconds, 500 seconds… Are we seriously supposed to keep checking the battle timer and calculating where she will land in the queue just to know what each move currently does? It feels unnecessarily complicated.
Her problem was never that her moves were too weak. The problem was that the TU on basically everything she does is ridiculously high. You get a few moves out of her, her immunity eventually runs out, and then she gets killed. None of that has actually been fixed.
On top of that, her skillset opens you up to basically every killer vulnerability imaginable.
Sure, she now gets piercing, stronger stun and better effects as the battle progresses, but the fundamental problems remain exactly the same. Until those absurd TUs are addressed, I do not see these changes making much difference.
Love
Now this I like!
Clemency is a really nice upgrade and gives Love some genuinely strong PvE utility. Fully healing the team, cleansing Sleep and Poison, resetting skill counts and giving everyone Shield can be extremely useful.
The problem is still the waifu form itself. The TU is simply too high for her to do anything particularly meaningful in PvP.
Will we suddenly see Love in PvP? No.
Will I use her in basically every PvE team now? Yes, yes, yes.
Sanguithor
What a weird balance journey this monster has had.
We started with an extremely awkward Mythic full of 255TU moves. Then they massively buffed it and it immediately jumped into SSS tier. Now it has already received two nerfs in a very short period of time and is probably somewhere around A/B tier for me.
Why buff it that aggressively in the first place just to start pulling everything back almost immediately?
At least Arterial Slash no longer counters Sanguithor itself, which was ridiculous. But now we have this weird category of targets that specifically cause instant death or summon monsters.
What exactly falls into that category? Once again we have another mechanic where players will have to test a bunch of interactions just to learn what actually counts.
Overall
I expected much better from 3.4.
The bug fixes and QoL improvements are appreciated, especially the filtering changes, but the actual monster balance portion feels underwhelming. Veylora somehow came out looking worse, Love got a nice PvE upgrade, and Sanguithor continues getting passed back and forth between balance extremes.
For a major update, this feels like a whole lot of nothing burger.
