Poison 2020

Friend… comrades… beloveds… As the ambassador of all poison monsters, I come to you in a time of great need.

I’ve looked at the monsterdex, ran the numbers, theorized strategies, and realized something: our beloved poison is finally growing, albeit slowly.

No more is the time of extremely slow, 200tu sweepers! We’re finally starting to see speed stats around 60%, 100tu double sweeping, and even a mythic dedicated to our beloved strategy!

Unfortunately the counters are growing aplenty too… maybe even too much so, but poison is a scary strategy to let run rampant as Scorpiogeist has showed us, so we understand.

But then what is this “great need” I spoke of, you may ask. Nothing major really, just a little thing to support this much appreciated growth: a super epic.

Keyword being support, while looking at all possible teams I could hope to assemble, to hatch for, one thought never left my head: “man if only I had another Freezecobra”… and then it hit me.

We need Shiny Freezecobra!

You could make it fire to push poison in link fire, which seems to be the taken direction lately, or maybe you could make it earth to support fellow shiny monster Tridrakhan. Hell, you could make it Water again for all I cared… I’d still love it.

Forever yours,
a poison connoisseur

ps: I gave my idea for how I would design a shiny Freezecobra in a couple of different elements here.

I agree a push for link fire poison would be great. Fire was the original biggest poison element I think, then got overshadowed (pun intended) by shadow and now earth is getting its own collection. Gorgodrake was a lovely addition and does encourage link fire (assisted blaze) but a couple of solid fire / link fire poison monsters would be cool over this next year.

Poison has always been incredibly scary and powerful when utilised well. I don’t think it’s ever dropped out of the meta completely and it hasn’t needed any crazy pushing, although it’s been given some at times. Full poison teams are definitely liable to counters in PvP, just like most strategies going down one single route.

Yeah, I don’t want too many poison monsters though, because otherwise they’d need to push counters further too, and I think the Scorpiogeist / Glaciaron situation proved that going that route isn’t a great idea.

Poison Super Epics are kinda lacking though, so I’d love to see more of those. Mostly on the support side, and possibly with Auto Poison.
