Can we not get “banned words”? We’re not in elementary, we can deal with the kids naming their monsters “shithead xD”.
If this feature comes with censorship I’d rather not get it at all.

Really though, if the devs are internet-conscious enough and can spot out any possible sneaky way to get inappropriate, this could have a genuine chance of working out. For one thing, disable symbols so letters can’t be hidden between them(doesn’t make sense for those to be in a monster’s name anyway). If they try to use spaces, the algorithm could do a second check that ignores those spaces. That only leaves 2 ways for trolls to go about being vulgar anyway; ciphers, and subtle innuendos. They could take naughty words and replace a few letters or adjust the spelling so that the meaning is still obvious; Devs might t not ever be able to track them all down, but they can still put a ton of policies in motion, like catching 4 letter words that start with “f” and end with “ck”. And then there’s the subtle stuff, utilizing words like “nut”, “thrust” or “shaft”. I’d say any word with enough potential to do something that could just be off limits. I dunno, just kinda theory crafting here mostly. Again though, would the presence of troll names really make it that much worse? Given how much the age rating has been pushed in… other ways?
You’re forgetting troll names in other languages, that makes it even harder to crack down. Currently youre limited to seeing bad names at the beginning of the match but I can imagine seeing a shitty name all match long (think bloom stunned till the end of time). It just seems like to much of a hassle for me and not really worth it.
Imagine the joy in receiving a 30 day ban after calling a monster “poopyshitty” though

I think Warca is more of a war ship than a plane. Therefore I think it should be called “Pearl Harbour”

What are we defining as symbols here? There are some ‘symbols’ in other languages that look an awful lot like English letters, so would those need to be banned? What about the people who speak those languages, would they just need to use Google Translate?
I think that my proposed ‘nonsense filter’ would probably solve this issue, but if nicknames are added, I may very well use this idea for other things.
As a veteran of mobile mmo’s, trolls can be more creative and more damaging than you or I can ever imagine. After all, we aren’t the ‘target demographic’ of these trolls. They are targeting people who may already have some serious issues with the intention of making those worse, and I think that this feature needs to be as safe as possible before it gets added into the game.

Or maybe only be able to nickname bonded monsters?
