Nicknames?

I think this’d be a hella fun feature for extra personalization. Partly it’s just that a lot of the monster names are downright painful to look at lol

Can make it so that you can tap on a monster’s name to get the actual species name if you want to see that, perhaps tint nicknames with a different color so it’s immediately recognizable. Also of course make this ability abundantly clear in game for those who could easily forget and suffer for it.

Naturally can implement a very heavy filter for swearing and such, and prolly keep out emojis and weird symbols too. And for the love of GOD, give us more than like 8-10 characters to work with lol

I really like this idea and fully support it. I already nickname my mons, so being able to display that would be great and increase immersion

I don’t really fancy this idea

These days I wouldn’t mind if there was a name or the first letter near the icon which shows the next monster coming in. I can’t remember the difference between any of the pornstars except for a few.

If you mean we can give nicknames to our own monsters, I will name my Ashterios - Moffoking Beast. It will survive the filter too.

I imagine this being exploited by the dividing a vulgar sentence between the four monsters in FL.

Something like:
Eatsh itand diebi tch

Well now that you’ve pointed it out perhaps the devs will be able to account for those cheeky strategies too lol. Even if a few get through, well… considering how much the age rating has been stretched already this hardly seems like much eh?

I hit an axe on my own toe :joy::joy:

I used to have a farfetch’d nicknamed “Dux”

Flocc (ulasaurus)

Chocc (Bitterbeast)

Rocc (oid, The)

Or maybe make nicknames only visible to the user; all other names are the species name to make the game feel more personalized and PG (obamamid)

Curse word filters would be nice, but should not be the focus of the naming system; this just encourages people to do things like

***h ***e ***c ***k

Or like Interference’s example

I’d nickname my moku free wins gg L

I feel like nicknames would be a moderating nightmare for the Devs, trying to stop people from putting silly stuff. Also, how would we ever learn the proper names of the monsters so we can talk about them?

I like Lemon’s idea about adding a name to the “coming next” bit in the top right. I agree the waifu are hard to distinguish.

Why do they have to stop people from putting silly things if the user will be the only one to see it?

I think that this is a pretty good solution. Another idea I had on my own would be to let you use personalized nicknames that could be whatever you want, but that for those to be public(seen in pvp battles) you would need to get a ‘nickname license’ that would require you to submit your monster and its name to real people who would probably be able to recognize the more obvious ways to avoid filters(Greek characters, leaving out certain letters, 0’s instead of O’s, dividing an inappropriate sentence between multiple monsters, etc.)

I also think that this could be a system on the forums where forum mods could give people these licenses if they think that they could trust them. This would encourage people to create forum accounts that are actually active and contributing to the community so that they could get the license. Obviously admins and mods should be able to revoke this if they get the license then immediately abuse it, and reporting/flagging names in game should also be an option, but we already deal with these sorts of things when it comes in inappropriate ign’s, so this won’t be too much harder.

Like I said, having humans moderate could fix this, but I think that applying a simple nonsense filter(A code that detects and flags strings of characters that are unlikely to be an actual pronounceable word/name, or strings that include multiple types of characters like a bunch of letters with a random 0 in the middle) would help prevent people from doing this or using some sort of code in their names that could be translated to a vulgar word or phrase. You can find these online, but you may want to code your own.

I would name my Shrubtooth “Deez Nuts”

Arborgias into “Massive Log” and Canishogun into “Killerdog”

I would name my Pearex “Zest”

Yep, as you say, that filter would take a lot of work. To improve the one in monsterdex is more important and yet, they haven’t done it, which tells me this nickname thing is a lost case .

Although, it’s a pretty good idea
