Just curious to see how many people have been playing for 2 months or shorter. There’s been a lot of growth in this game which is pretty cool. Been playing since the Hunter Island days and it’s grown tremendously since then! Comment on here if you’re new
Have 44 days played and still feel like I’ll never catch up. Got 1 legendary in the beginning and rolled 50 gems with 0 luck. Have trash super epics that are just support. I have 66 gems currently but want to wait for pengbot so I can roll but chances are so slim that I feel like I will just get more trash. I don’t mind supporting games with money but knowing there’s 0% chance at playing competitively even sinking a rent check into the game and I’d still never have a chance.
It just bums me out because I love the game but can’t have fun without the ability to actually compete.
The F2P way is slow but doable. It is completely possible to reach top 50 status being F2P. I have done it numerous times and have spent a grand total of $0(because the devs haven’t given me something I think is worth my money).
Key things you need:
- Willingness and ability to learn.
- Patience
- A brain
- Ability to think analytically(you will learn this if you don’t have it already).
5.(optional) money.
Don’t get hung up on a legendary for starters. That will come later. Getting a pengbot should be secondary to collecting some legends. Legends = options, Options = teams, teams = more gems and more things to learn about the game. I have 22 legends. All F2P. And I don’t have the legendary that I want(Tenebris). You have 66 gems. The anniversary is coming up. Try to get 100 by then.
The reason I say this is because of 50/60/100 eggs. The first 10 eggs has a 50% chance for a legend. Note that this isn’t the total chance, but 1 egg out of the 10 you open has a 50% chance for a legend. The other 9 have a 6.1% chance.
The second 10 in 1 has a 60% chance for a legend. It works the same way as the 50%.
Most of all: learn patience. It takes you far in more than just the game itself.
This is going to sound weird but bear with me.
You can go completely F2P, it takes a while but it’s perfectly possible. With a bit of luck you can even get some good legends to start you off in competitive pvp and work up from there.
However.
The other option is to spend a bit at the start and then go F2P. The reason being is that the game provides a substantial amount of free gems, with the requirement of being able to complete the events. Ultimate challlenge as an example gives something like 50 gems all in all if you have the time to complete it. You get between 5-10 from a lot of events, not to mention rare gems and other stuff. The point I’m making is that there’s a threshold, and once you’re past it it becomes very easy to earn gems. I know because I’ve done it. Back in the day I spent a lot, but since university I’ve had to cut back and tbh there isn’t much difference considering I haven’t spent on this game for nearly a year now. Half of the legends I use were obtained during this period, and all of the super epics were freely obtained. Of my team something like 3 legends were paid for, and that’s enough to hit top 10 in pvp pretty easily.
You still have to save up gems for festivals etc but it’s easily possible. It just takes time. But it’s substantially more time if you don’t pay at the start.
Again, it sounds super weird spending to go f2p, but it’s worth it in the long run, at least in my opinion.
Oh and as far as doing well goes, trust me it’s not all to do with the monsters. If you look at restriction pvps, especially ones with only 2 legends allowed, you’ll notice the same names at the top. Doing well is more about knowing what you’re facing and how to build around it. You could spam 16 legends in a team but you won’t do well, trust me.
I agree with buck. If your going to spend your better off spending early on in the game. The less legends you have the more chance you have of getting new ones. The more you have the more chance of a dupe you have which when your at 50+ makes it debatable if to bother spinning at all unless you have the gems (or want to buy gems) to do 6 packs and that’s if the featured legend is even at better odds. Plus again like buck said it’s hard to finish events without decent monsters which then means you miss out on gems/potions/ingredients that makes it harder to advance but in the long run would mean you need to spend more often to get gems as you don’t get the maximum from events
i got exactly two months, only got 2 legends, but i already manage to pass all the offline story ñ.ñ and i am in the final battle of the seven chapter in online story. It is like they are saying, you dont need all the legendaries to have fun in this game, just get full advantage of your monster ñ.ñ and save those gems to get some more monsters in the festivals, thats all
I got Rexotyrant and Revenarchion, they are not the best monsters, but you can do good things with them and i am pretty sure that is the same for the other legendaries xP
Another thing you beginners should know about, there’s this chatting app called line, where all of the most experienced players(and the less experienced too) talk about the game and arrange friendly pvp matches. All you have to do is get the app, and have someone invite you to the group. It’s a significantly more efficient way to communicate directly than the forum.
You only spend at the beginning or when you know you’re getting a new legend, i.e 6th 10 in 1 pack during certain festivals. F2P is the way to go normally.
When I started this game a little over a year ago I saw the design of how you get legendaries and figured that I’d only ever get one or two. I rolled whenever I hit 5 gems and didn’t think much into it. A short while later I got my first legendary: Bovolcus. Took what felt like ages before I got another legendary but they slowly came in. I couldn’t complete lots of the limited-time events to get many gems so progress was slow. But after a few months I’d gained enough legendaries to give me options for different, strong, teams. Once you get to this point you can start completing lots more events, getting more gems and then saving them for the best festivals where you can more easily get legendaries. So in the recent months (since about March-April) I’ve been able to complete every single event fully with relative ease and get the maximum amount of free gems they’re giving out… which is a lot more than when I first began! I’ve managed to get 27 legendaries without spending anything at all and can place up in the top 100 for all ranked events (PvP and UC), as long as I have the time, so that’s a little under 2 legendaries per month on average.
What I’m trying to say is to have hope if you’re a new player starting out and hoping to play for free. It can be frustrating how slow it is at times or when you’ve been saving up for ages only to get unlucky in a festival. There were certain points I was not motivated to play then I’d drop my gems on a festival and get 3 new legendaries which open up way more options for my team. But it’s perfectly possible to enjoy the game and get up to a level where you can complete all the stages of each event. The key to enjoying a game like this is to be patient and accept you’re not going to get to choose which legendaries you get. There are plenty of fun legendaries you’ll get which you can try out in different combinations even if you’re secretly pleading the RNG god to give you a particular one or two *cough* Geartyrant + Goldtail *cough*.
I also started out without spending anything. I played through the entire main story without a single legend, bringing down Atrahasis with nothing but a Wolfrozen Last Stand. It was quite daunting, but that challenge really added to the experience, encouraging me to make the most of what I had, and forcing me to truly think about my strategy in order to succeed. My first ever strategy was with Frillzeon and Beetlebrave Sleep bombing into Rosaqueen and Chillqueen, 3/2 star dreamhunters. That strat worked amazingly for me for a long way through the story, and I felt so accomplished having discovered a better way to fight. Now, I have spent money in the past, it got me Godfeather and Doomengine, which granted were quite useful monsters, but definitely not worth 120 bucks. -_- But everything else I got without paying, I’m now sitting on 28 legends, 5 of them event exclusive(I’ll admit I got a little lucky at times). I might not be the best example here, but for me, the struggle of having limited resources actually made the game more enjoyable and less of a pushover. And once you’re past the hard phase and are able to complete events, gem collecting will be a snap.
I actually didn’t spend until after I completed the story, iceborn’s godfeather carried me most of the way XD.
Although this was back when the egg was a wheel that you could time if you were good and before they improved the ai on bronzeshells, and they didn’t flip themselves
I am F2P aswell, been playing for one year and two months and really made so many mistakes early on, but I managed to get where I am now (12 legendaries and top 100 sometimes in PvP). All I can suggest you is to save 150 gems and roll during a festival in which you will get a 100% legendary egg in the third pack
Always try to get as many gems and xp as possible because you will need them a lot, try to experiment with what you get and create strategies based on your pve opponent.
I got 0 legendaries for 7 months when I started… And the first one then was serapheon, a support one. Then I stopped doing singles and finally got lucky with a few legendaries.
Hold on and, depending on your luck and skill, you will reach the top one day
