In contrast to Shadow, Storm is awesome. Usual rules; one element, no awakened Myths, although I ventured outside of the element for some stun protection, because running XYZ feels like the Neo equivalent of a mid life crisis and I had nothing else viable for it. As I said before, it’s pointless just to report back the lack of stun protection got me stunned. I also used a diamondoid just to use up slots within the cost. The team I ran:
The FL
This team converted me to the belief that Stratus is better than Oniblade. If the OoO lands it doesn’t feel long to charge, and given the popularity of Storm, Kinslayer is huge.
Sherlock Edit: You Traitor
I was absolutely shocked by how many players have no answer to sleep or OoO in their FL.
I definitely think I could have run a better FL than OoO, but then I would have been scraping the barrel for Storm mons later on as it would have been hard to fill the entire team.
Second form Rilla is immense. Tanky and always has targets.
Avia
Payback killer is almost a must these days. More importantly it acts as KBN fodder (very useful with Joco’s arrival).
Midgame
So I have this concept I’m calling multi-lock.
I’ve found that if you go hard on stun or sleep, it’s usually polarised in its success. Either it works super well, or you take a beating. So the idea of a multi lock is this:
Use multiple methods to seize control creating atleast a 4 on 2 advantage.
Create shells, Sleep a monster or 2, stun a monster or 2. If one fails thats ok because normally 2/3 should work.
Basically, if I can have one bronzeshell on the enemy’s side at all times, sleep at least one monster and have at least a stun absorber stunned out of the game completely, then I have great control.
Even if the stun fails, a sleeping monster and a shell still makes 2-4. Or if sleep fails, an absorber is still stunned and I have a shell.
You get the picture. Viga is obviously amazing with its secret skill. Malwing is versatile anyway and blows back anything problematic. Motor is simply Op. Raizen gives great control over your stun.
Eventually, I removed Raizen because 3 stunable monsters in a row is too many, so I used Tygoron instead. Bulbie was used from time to time as well.
Endgame.
Leo caused carnage once the enemy was locked up. I love crescendo. Also a much needed stun absorber.
Do I feel dirty for running Peng? Not when I have the SS turned on. A quick Leo inspire and this was very effective.
Bunny for piercing and quick charging as it’s near the end. Vital for the people’s monster: Moku. Saber for Lemons. If that one monster didn’t exist, I’d have ran something else.
Conclusion.
Storm is absolutely amazing. It has everything in terms of control and sweepers.
I’d estimate this team got 75% or higher in terms of win rate. I ended around 65% but Shadow pulled it down massively and I played far more games with my shadow team because it took so long to find something half viable.
Running this has made me realise the importance of potions. I obviously don’t have everything +9 or even +5 and often I’d be slower than I should be. Same with all of my Elem teams.
Multi lock is effective.
Shoulda taken it to ranked but didn’t have time.
