Previously the rules I set myself were:
Build an entire team with just one element
No awakened Myths
Earth was successful, unless it got stunned, Water - regarded by many as the strongest element was very easy to play.
I adjusted the rules the second time around because it was pointless in me coming back to say this element lost because it didn’t have stun protection, so if I had to go outside of the element to protect against stun, I would.
The poll on my last post asked for Shadow. It was incredibly hard! Even harder than I first thought, but this was the team I ran. Note: for Shadow I deliberately avoid AoE and Nova lock, because that felt too easy and I wouldn’t learn anything.
The FL is reminiscent of Kings Magga FL, but it was actually Geocosma which was MVP. What an absolute weapon that thing is. Double fast strike, payback & stealth killer, instant purify! The only thing that lets it down is it’s speed. Leo inspire with it was an amazing combo and a nice back up to Magga.
There weren’t many sweepers available for this element. They’re all in that team, so I pretty much had to use them all and fit them together like a jigsaw. The team was mainly focused around some basic sweeping and setting up Runedragon for the polymerisation.
Rune is amazing, even without the fusion. It combo’d nicely with Atra who could time the protection and field management well, but also revive Rune which instantly begins healing. When things went well, I could create this.
However sometimes, when Rune is charged and lords is on the field with overwatch, a fusion isn’t always the best option.
Lastly, Zhulong towards the end. This is because a Link Sneak attack all was too difficult to pull off in the FL without losing control of the battle. If I had Azrazel, the FL I wanted to run was:
Plasmorexis (epic with stealth gift)
Azra
Zhulong
Bauble
Bitterbeast
Cannibalise stealth gift, the timing is perfect for Zhulong to Sneak attack all, Bauble can follow up, Azra isn’t far behind with a double bloodcrave and will probably attack next. I was itching to try it, but I didn’t have the monsters.
Overall, shadow was a tough. I took some heavy losses, changed teams several times and found there was a huge lack of options. Also stun protection was diabolical. After Tort and Bitter, there isn’t much else. I probably could have set up a more successful team with a nova lock, but where’s the fun in that?
At the same time I ran this I was also running a full Storm team with way more success. I didn’t play much ranked due to availability, but my general win ratio was 65%, however Storm brought that up massively and worse Shadow teams than the one I settled on brought it down. I would estimate a 55-60% ratio for this particular team.
Shadow sucks. Geocosma is awesome. Runedragon is a beast. Zhulong needs some love. Part 3 - Storm coming up
