So we have delugazer, a monster that ruled the game and was the envy of at least me for quite a long while. Basically just GT and spam aoe till DBL thirst is charged and happy sweeping. Nowadays he’s much easier to deal with, with nearly no defense or health, and no way to defend himself. I’m proposing to add a second passive, original thought up by the one and only @squinty1880. Before you stop reading and respond with ‘this is ridiculous and stupid’ bear with me.
Give him time freeze.
When you think about it, it makes a lot of sense, no giving turns to him at all!! It’s a blessing and a curse! On top of that, he would hard counter twig, overwatch mons like bitter, peng. Now for the real question, what do you guys think?
I’m against the idea. It feels out of place and random for him. It’s more of a cursed than a blessing. To be honest delu isn’t even in my team at the moment. He doesn’t need that curse.
With Time Freeze Delugazar would be horribly nerfed. What’s the point of charging double bloodthirst if you can’t get the payoff from giving Delugazar extra turns?? Also, it goes against his SS swift chrono killer. There’s no need to kill some of the chrono targets if they can’t use turn-granting moves and that SS is the best way to get charging him.
I’ve had Delugazar for over two years now and used him extensively. He’s a lot of fun to play with and various people have created annoying teams around him. Ultimately, giving turns to him is the main way you use him well. It would be like removing stun absorber from Bloomeluga or bloodthirst from Shadowyrm/Kamiwyrm. Yes, they’d function without it but basically you use Bloomeluga for stun protection and TK’s for sweeping that isn’t just protectors and sleepers.
A more appropriate passive to add would be stunning entrance (charges timestrike). These days, stunning entrance can backfire badly and it gives him a weakness to stun killer. However, it also encourages people to run him outside the front line (not in AP spam / GT teams) and he can be useful in teams where you want to have an aggressive line-up while including some control like stun.
