First thing, make sure you continue to do the six trials until all 6 of the mons are +9, so you don’t have to waste any potions on them, and if you roll them on the wheel you’ll get a potion to use on something else. So for using potions, if I assume you’re already at the point where your team is mostly SEs or legends, then the top picks are Shivogod, Gigasect, Frillzerrex, Dreadfish, Octoboss, Archwolf, Anubirom, and Seahowl. Those are the monsters you’re undoubtedly most likely to use even once you’ve mostly moved on to bigger stuff, since they can assist said bigger monsters in profound ways that big monsters can’t. Also, I think ideally you should have at least one of every type of monster at +9. Some types are already covered thanks to the trials, so you should have at least one poisoner(not like Octojungle), dreamhunter, duplicator(both kinds), survivor, twinkiller, throw/bloodcraver, starter, and sleeper/summoner at +9, once potion income is fast enough of course. If you can help it though, don’t give any bonuses to the megabombers, Pandochamp and Nukespider. If they have any bonus then they’ll be forced to move 5 times instead of 4 in order to be ready to explode. If they do end up with a bonus via dupes, then you can bonus them up all you want.
However if you’re still mostly relying on epics, then I think your focus should be on a throwing monster. It’s a rather primitive sweeper, but a sweeper nonetheless, best the epic tier has to offer. Also focus on a sacrifice summon monster, so it can move faster and be more likely to plant its rocks at the back of the team for your sweeper to use at its convenience. Another notable kind of monster is the duplicate stunners(Sentiguard, Ninjastorm, Spiderix and Frostbrave). These things are incredible in early game, since as long as you keep them safe they can provide multiple stun revenges to hurl at the enemy, and can even pull off its own kind of last stand if the ai is stupid enough to leave the chain alive. One more thing to consider is the element of each type you choose. Fire, earth, storm and water are better defensive types, since they each resist one type, while shadow and holy are better offensive types, since nothing resists them. Which one you prefer is up to you.
The best epics are someone they can clone and have stun revenge. Except PvP these epics are great for the ending of the team instead the Starters. I have Sentiguard (sharing him) and I’m happy for having him he is nice. Very good epic is The Light Monster by the Six Trials and Seahowl.
stun revenge and create duplicate is best for end game specily when you have emeral or doom on last
- Stun revengers + clone are awesome
- GT + stun immune
- gt + sleep/stun bomb
- 1on 1 (for frontline to bring your survivors in position - its like a cheap stratos or to bring your 400 sek bombers in Position)
No need to pot other epic one on one, just use yetikong since you can get it +9 at the online section. 
Best epics to pot are by far the Stun immun GT
Other good options are
Stun immun stun bombers for FL
Dual poison touc/poison eater h are also usefull with bane at FL
Create duplicate stun revenge monsters are awesome but clones will not benefict from potions
Even GT/Dreamhunt monsters deserve it iff no other options for Dreamhunt

Stun Bombers, Give Turners, and Protectors are my personal favourites. However I have most of my epics maxed so I usually spend my potions on the starters before I super-epic evolve them, or on the limited time epics (very few of them released though). Basically any I can’t duplicate from an egg I use potions on.
My best epic is definitely is vilegrin! I use all my epic potions on him.

I have also an inferneo. Very good monster without any star… ;D it kills a lot of sleeping legendaries with my tezladragon on protect focus otherwise it is killed very quick ;D
I want to mean he is a common monster and if used with sleepers he can one shot everything cus of insanely good damage of Dreamhunt…plus GT to support
The only SE Dreamhunters are event monster and not everyone have then
