5 - maertS niaM

Version Histroy:

  1. http://www.hunterislandforum.com/index.php/topic/1561-5-maerts-niam/?p=22397

After reviewing some of the comments in this post and evaluating the most recently released OM Gearwolf, the current setup below has proven to be quite useful. Please refer to version 1 for general notes on ARK’s used below.

Again, this thread is much more about my personal feelingsa about the current state of the meta game, and by no means is a bone-a-fide cure all.

The line-up:

Shadowstalker

Chopperbug

Minespider

Gremknight

pegasion

Mossgolem

Arkwing

Barry

Vegitiger

Snowja

Omega

Anubis (a nice buffer I’ve been having fun with trying to get out of my comfort zone)

Raioh

Angelon

Don Penguini

Next thing you know we’re gonna need a counter team for the counter team :stuck_out_tongue: But still, this is a solid team youhave here. Think I mayhave seen somebody use something like this in a PVP matchup. Love that arkwing and mossgolem combo.

I’ll wind up updating this every week so it’ll be a rotating roster, but I’ll reference older rosters in te post.

And i totally agree with the Arkwing moss workup.

Barry?

^barricadus.

Anyways…looking good, man. Mind adding 5 to the title? “5 - Go Against the Flow” or “5 - Don’t Go with the Flow” or “5 - maertS niaM” would be cool :P…get the last one? Opposite of main stream? Lol.

Then I’ll add it to the warehouse. And if you have an idea and are too busy, PM me. And the opposite is true too. I’ll let ya know n.n

Now we just need to convince Ashley to add one of her old PVP teams

Hello Hello Hello!!!

Hope everyone is doing well, I know the holidays are coming up and thought it would be a good time to post this.

With plenty of knowledge in the forum it can be fun trying new idea’s and asking for help to develope teams. I personally like to play counter teams, basically when a new OM comes out there is a rush of new teams try to use such ARKs. It can be a bit boring to see the same thing over and over again, but when an Idea catches on, it’s always easier to find a counter. The trick is finding the counter to the new BIG thing and building a team that does well overall.

I won’t sugar this and say this is a team available to everyone, nor can I say that I will ever really be able to post something Like that here. The new ARKs are powerful and need power/strategy to consistently do well.

So I will begin posting my counter teams near the end of each week (this one comming a bit sooner as I won’t be playing as much the next few days), I would like to state that these are from my own play experience and your mileage may vary.

The current weeks OM has been Shadowstalker a resilient, control creature that can be difficult to down, especially if it’s a mirror match. So on to the counter Line-up.

Shadowstalker

Chopperbug

Gremknight

Shisagaurd

Arkwing

Mossgolem

Barry

Minespider

Vegitiger

Goldhorn

Snowja

Raioh

Omega

Angelon

Don Penguini

Now right off the bat you’ll notice that I have the same starting Lineup as most shadowstalker setups. Well it’s becuase it is a solid lineup. The control that scapegoat gives is phenominal when pared with stun skin units. Not too mention gremknight’s knockback ability is great for setting the stage. But the big thing is getting them to Kill your chopperbug or at the very least get around their scapegoat without triggering the TU stun.

Shisagaurd is the counter against shadowstalker, why you ask? Mysticbane. A few hits and down goes the opposing teams opening heavy hitter. The rest of my team has been a bit of a stample for me. Currently it works well and gets the job done pretty consistently. From stun teams, to the flavor of the week teams it just does well.

To the breakdown:

Shadowstalker

Chopperbug

Gremknight

Shisagaurd

This portion being where you get setup by removing threats or just forcing them to stun up, so you can get to  smashing away. Whether it be with hasted chain claws, xenowinds, or mysticbanes.

Arkwing

Mossgolem

In the even shadowstalker makes it this far, and honestly it happens quite a bit, here is where the fun may/or may not happen. If their shadowstalker is still alive, it needs to die or be knocked back prior to getting this far. Scapegoat is still a go to tool, this time pointing to moss golem. Why the arkwing? Beastbane and he is elementless, if you get haste on him he can wreck several different kinds of arks. but the ral fun begins when you use any of arkwings heavy hit abilities, and then can siesta. If Arkwing is at the rear, he usually(not always mind you) will creep up giving you Arkwing into mossgolem again, simply rinse and repeat using dreamhunter as you can, and keep scapegoat active when possible. Risky heal is definitely situational and you need to learn when it will benifit you the most.

Barry

Minespider

This being one of my favorite setups (for now anyway until scorpiniox is released) becuase it sets the stage for a nice explosion, and lets face it we all love a good three-for-one. More importantly when minespider dies that vegi can sweep in and bane  pretty much anything of your choice (more than likely)

Vegitiger

See above

Goldhorn   sweep attack

Snowja sweep attack

Raioh haste, and stun gift

Omega  sweep attack and no gaurd

Angelon  sweep, haste, and healing

Now then, this entire portion is geared towards a HUGE finish. basicaly between raioh and angelon, you should be able to get a solid charcostun stun out thereand use a no defense+haste omega to pick ofthose coming off of stun.

Don Penguini

Love him or hate him he is a solid anchor, I am interested in finding a new finisher though.

Hope you all found the read interesting or at least noteworthy lol.

For now I’ll catch you all later, and I’ll be updateing this with a new counter team come the new release of gearhound.

edit: O, and Merry X-MAS!!!

Merry Christmas to you too! And thanks for taking time to write this counter team. Here are my two cents.

I have tried Shisaguard in many battles and found his mysticbane is very weak against Shadowstalker. It may require 5-6 mysticbanes to kill it. I don’t know whether this is a bug or Shisaguard is just too weak. And Shadowstalker can easily counter it by casting Scapegoat, especially on Mossgolem which is an Earth Ark.

And the tanks seem to be placed too close to each other. Shadowstalker is tankish, and is likely to survive longer than Gremknight, Shisaguard and Arkwing. Hence you may get Shadowstalker + Mossgolem + Barry, which does not deal much damage at all. Vegitiger is likely to be surrounded by two tanks as well, though it can deal better damage. It may be better to replace one of the tanks with a haste caster. This build is also going to have a headache against opponent’s Mossgolem as it lacks a strong Fire hitter.

Opponents usually put their Shadowstalker at the beginning. I do too, and put it along with a stun skinner and a mine spider. The success rate of time bomb is 99%, except if opponent’s Arkwing acts before my Shadowstalker, or if Arkwing got multiple bonus actions. This combo can easily get rid of opponent’s Shadowstalker, though it can be easily countered by opponent’s Gremknight’s knock back.

Very true. Regarding the ending, I use that setup as well n.n

However, the success rate of time bomb will drop to 0% after 1 of two monsters is released.

Actually, after many battles, I start to doubt the Shadowstalker + Mossgolem combo.

I’m never a fan of putting 2 tanks together. Shadowstalker is currently the best tank (best element, best type while Mysticbane is bugged). Mossgolem is a decent tank (best type). They both don’t deal much damage. So the damage will rely heavily on the third Ark. This is not very efficient. I personally am thinking about replacing Mossgolem with another heavy hitter, so it will be Shadowstalker + 2 heavy hitters, and Shadowstalker can Scapegoat itself. I may place Mossgolem before Omegawyrm for Fang break and healing.

Some may like putting Vegitiger near Mossgolem, maybe for Ally Fist. But Shadowstalker + Mossgolem + Vegitiger are really weak against Fire Arks, and Vegitiger really can’t deal much damage against opponent’s Mossgolem or Shadowstalker.

I start to hate Shadowstalker now as it is so luck-based. Daydream, 70TU, 50% to be successful. Once successful, it is a one-shot kill. If unsuccessful, its ally or itself may just loss a turn. If timed accurately, its ally may not even need to loss a turn. I had several instances where at least 5 Arks of mine were taken down by Dreamhunt. I am not saying this due to jealousy as I have got an S rank Shadowstalker too. But the fact that it can’t be one-shot like the 12-star Destructor really frustrates me. To be honest, it should be one-shot by Mysticbane, since it already has the advantage of no elemental weaknesses.

I found myself enjoyed the battles more before Shadowstalker was released.

Mossgolem is meant to be a healer for Shadow as well. Don’t forget about that  Complements Shadow’s tankiness.

There wouldn’t be a problem with it if it wasn’t overused…because obviously, similar strategies stuck against each other. It’s just pointless. It’s a fight for BA.

But don’t worry, as more strategies come out and as more monsters are released, the craze will die down.

Yeah but I found in most battles my Shadowstalker hand’t received much damage before my Mossgolem died (maybe my team was set up too well? LOL). And Mossgolem is really weak against magical attacks (e.g. Arkwing), not as tannish as some may think. And also, if my Shadowstalker survives for too long (in some battles mine survived from the beginning till the end…), my other tanks e.g. Goldenhorn will show up and it will become 2 tanks + 1 hitter.

Should Goldenhorn or Subzeratops come up, no guard is always a possibility. Even if it dies, its passive ability would be beneficial to make shadowstalker even more tankier. Lol. Barricadus…ewww…it’ll screw you over in the future. Ahaha.

Even without dream moves, it’s still useful as a tank and damager. Scapegoat is also one of the most useful moves in the game.

And tanks may be tanks, but they can be useful in other ways. Besides, you can always run a Gearwolf or Rooknight if you feel like doing some heavy damage…if the opponents have large amounts of TU ofc.

This is version 1.

yeah, counters will be made for pretty much every popular strategy. After all, we can’t have something be too overused, hmm?

Nope! I may have something for you to look at, I’ve had an itch to try out a particular team. I’ll give you a message once i’ve checked it’s viability.

Tanks… that is all =D

Sweet. I also have some sweet names that i thought of…now for the teams…
