Personally I think the main difficulty is everyone will point at different things being the problem and we all have very incomplete information about the monsters, win rates, etc. Also, at any given time there’s always lots of background noise of the latest thing people are moaning about which is hard to distinguish from long-term problems.
Personally, I think we have three problems:
The power creep from new mythic releases and buffed older mythics over the last 2 years.
A few “power spikes” that have genuine problems, mostly from releases in the last year.
A few designs that are mechanically unsafe.
Generally speaking though, the development of PvP in terms of gameplay and diversity has been great I think. This “improvement” will always be responded to with complaints as people are forced into rock-paper-scissors scenarios or restricted team building, but I reckon that’s human nature rather than a true negative to listen to.
(1) Has basically reached the point of no return. Mythics are accessible enough to everyone that they’ve become what you need to play and unfortunately we now have too much piercing, defence buffs etc that there’s no going back. In order for things to be competitively playable, they simply need to be very powerful now. So all I think can be done is trying to make the majority of monsters be niche, combo or unique and only some be generic or purposefully a strong standout. It sounds like that’s what VKC is trying to do now.
(2) Is my personal take. There will always be the latest strong thing but I honestly think we’re in a good place besides a handful of problems. I listed them in the nerf thread recently (or maybe it was the buff thread?), but it’s things like Albion’s 60TU skill, Bridalith’s double entrance passive being available at the start of a battle, Astrajlyth’s speed boost, Pandora’s speed, etc.
(3) Is things like Nightingale/Leira for setting up combos. These are dangerous, even if they aren’t being utilised right now. I’d personally want them all fixed, but some of them lead to exciting and fun gameplay for people so it’s probably best simply to monitor them and fix when they become a problem (e.g. the hand monster with Sivanna backbite + token disruption).
They had to introduce some stronger mythics because top teams were stuck recycling the same pool of obvious S-tier picks, and new releases just weren’t making it into the meta. They weren’t worth the risk with untested combos.
Is Pandora or Astra possibly too strong? Maybe. But it’s also true that both have plenty of counters.
I completely agree with that. I really dislike those “exception” mythics like Nightingale that ended up pushing monsters like Bastia entirely out of PvP. I’d also add the issue of giving newer releases moves that used to be unique to just one mythic, like Corrosive Thrust. It takes away what made those older monsters special.
I really hope they start releasing more combo-focused mythics, like Rozaliz. She might not be amazing on her own, but in the right lineup, she becomes exceptional. That kind of design encourages creativity and deeper teambuilding, which the game really needs more of.
You’re not supposed to have every character in a gacha game without spending a significant amount of m0ney. It’s a free-to-play game, not a free-to-own-everything game. That’s the whole model. I thought that was already clear too.
We were actually planning to release the update early today, but it’s still under review by Apple. The review is taking unusually long compared to our previous updates. Hopefully, we’ll be able to release it tomorrow
If anyone works at Apple or knows someone who does… Please ask them to approve our update. The new waifu doesn’t even show much skin this time!
Also, Wont it be time to unnerf some legends? I feel like monsters like Flocc and Dusi can make a comeback and be normal in todays meta. (The dmg entrance with dual slayerbane and countershock old Floc + Confident strike/leach old dusi)
maybe myst
i feel like those would be interesting to see. something that used to be broken is back to its prime
Pleasantly surprised by her look. She is a stun entrance monster with 140 seconds, Hold Ground and unkillabale without a piercing move. Seems like she is gonna be good
Also Evil is dead. Goodbye pandora, no more will you be brainlessly put anywhere in the team and just get a free turn for no reason
