A potentially serious security issue has been announced in PHP, software used by our game servers and many other online services. We are checking whether it affects our game.
Emergency PHP updates are scheduled for October 21 at 14:00 (UTC). We may carry out maintenance around that time if needed and will confirm once we know more.
Less likely. We have the whole day to solve it. But for security reasons, we may have to go into maintenance for 10+ hours until working hours in Japan, when we’ll have more engineers available to check things.
A critical security issue has been discovered in PHP, software used by our game servers. If exploited, it could allow unauthorized access to servers, potentially putting player data and game services at risk.
As a precaution, we will temporarily suspend online services while we apply security updates and test the game. Online play will be unavailable during this time. This is a preventive measure, not an announcement of a confirmed breach.
Our team will resume work tomorrow, October 22, during regular working hours. We will confirm the reopening time once testing is complete.
We apologize for the disruption and appreciate your patience as we work to protect your accounts and progress.
We’ve had to update PHP to the latest version to get the security fixes. Since our old version was pretty outdated, that also meant editing almost all the game’s PHP files—and those files handle literally everything: accounts, saves, hatching, rewards, events…
Thanks to AI, we’ve been able to get through the changes something like 20 times faster. Now we just need to test the crap out of everything. So far, so good.
By the way, the McDonald’s app in Japan and my kid’s nursery school app are also under maintenance. It’s kind of serious and funny at the same time.
