Mythic Colosseum first impressions

@Dev_VKC @Dev_BRD

Firstly, it’s nice to have a new event for us to play.

The positives:

  • The concept of getting to play with a mythic (which we probably don’t own) and to build around it is a good one.

The negatives:

  • We’ve faced these PvP teams quite a lot already, in PvP then in “test your team” and in biweekly missions. The recent change to Showdown Tower means we face PvP-like teams a lot there now too.
  • We don’t meet diverse teams. They are pulled from a certain meta in PvP so a lot are similar. This makes the grinding of this event a bit dull.
  • We don’t NEED the mythic. If you have a good team already you can simply win before the mythic even enters.

Overall, I think people will agree that the event isn’t bad, it’s just not something special or fun for older players. It’s only exciting for new players who will actually want to build around the mythic to get the most out of it. The rest of us just use our strong teams.

Some thoughts for improvement:

  • Make us build a team with only 8 monsters. This will give an advantage to using mythics because their higher cost doesn’t matter (fits with the fact it’s the “mythic colosseum”). It also makes the mythic we get a much larger factor in the battle and therefore building around it something more worth considering. Enemy teams could range from something like 10-14 monsters, or maybe more.

  • Change the enemy teams chosen to favour teams that the particular mythic will be good against. E.g. When you have Yukihime it is more likely to pick teams without any counter to sleep. When you have Y Ddraig Goch it is more likely to pick teams with poison and no payback killer.

  • Make the pool of possible enemy teams larger. This both helps the previous point and it should make the event slightly more engaging if you’re not seeing similar teams frequently.

This is all just first thoughts after doing a few battles and seeing what others have said about the event in the first few hours of its release.

I think it’s also great event for newer players because the teams and ticket point ratio of the lowest difficulty are pretty fair and should be beatable for a lot of people

Totally agree with this:

Now, Devs do you see how narrow the meta is? Same 20 monsters over and over and over again. It takes no imagination putting Angelion, Dracorosa, Magmarinus Dusicyon and Dicculasaurus etc etc behind each other, only a credit card. Now it’s just mindless grinding against the same team all over again. Literally ran into Cyclo FL+Centaur 5th 3 times in a row. And people say Scorp is too hard to counter…

Now let’s stay on topic. Mythic Colosseum. Why are we fighting with Brynhildr? What is the Colosseum? Why is Musharoo transforming into Brynhildr? Would have been nice to get some background story beforehand.

I think the story got cut when it was deemed too much for a kid’s game. You take mushrooms and start imagining large breasted fighting angels, snow queens and gargoyles

I agree though. It would be fun to have a little story bit at the beginning that has a Musharoo.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah NICE that would explain everything

Because it is a magic mushroom…

I just had another idea about the Mythic Colosseum. I think it is actually very well suited to being a type of permanent content in the game. Here’s how it would work:

  • There are “Team XXX” for every mythic in the game. When a new mythic comes out a new team can be added (maybe slightly before sometimes to get hype?).

  • The mythics are put into groups of 5, where you have to do 20 battles to unlock the next one.

  • There are rewards for the first 50 battles you do for each team as well as the first complete of each difficulty. In total it gives something like 5-10 gems for each mythic.

  • Battles also give you “colosseum points” which are lifetime points that give you rewards. These repeat every 10k and give you 1 gem, 1 rare gem, youth fruit, silver, 1 epic potion and 1 super epic potion each 10k.

  • The matchmaking is against relatively current PvP teams that gets updated every few months.

  • Ticket costs for the battles and hero exp are just like this event, colosseum points would be 50, 75 and 100 from the difficulties respectively.

  • The mythic colosseum is not available until you reach, say, hero rank 80. This way the free gems should not affect early player spending and it will be something exciting for new players to aspire to unlocking that will let them play with all the mythics. Gems are gained at the cost of many tickets anyway.

So basically taking the same designs of this event but turning it into a place we can have fun playing with all the mythics and otherwise dump tickets to get some extra gems and rare gems at a very inefficient rate.

I hope the Devs are able to tweak this event to make it more fun to play for all players, rather than being like a second Survival of the Fittest. However, the game also benefits from having more permanent content for keeping new players going until they’re hooked. I think this would be ideal for that.

Thank you for the feedback guys. These are good points.
We will keep improving our events.

3rd mythic extreme seems to generally give 98 points. That’s the most i believe you can get and the whole event would take 103 battles minimum. That’s quite a strech imo especially when you meet the same teams over and over. And the battles arent even hard, been rocking poison team which generally doesn’t work towards endgame of events. I would love to make the battles harder and gain more points than being easy, meeting same teams 103 times in a row and only getting 98 points each win.

Although this is a welfare event for new players. But new players need spend a lot of time and tickets to complete this event.

If they keep losing. They can always go for the easier levels

I don’t know if something was changed or whether it was like this all along but I’ve been meeting a few battles which are randomly generated and have lots of mythics in and otherwise what look like people’s PvP teams but with random monsters changed into mythics.

@Dev_VKC If this is some changes you’ve already made with regards to feedback then thanks very much! I totally agree with the enemy teams having a focus on mythics, that’s how this event could be made more unique and obviously it fits the theme. The battles have been slightly easier because of the lack of synergy but it’s a good step in the right direction.

I am surprised you already noticed! Except those teams are not randomly built.
We have added 200 teams for each level from many PvE events.

Completely agree with the OP. Amazing idea, but it could use pulishing.

Also, since we have 3 stages, it would be great in my opinion if we could use 2 different Mythics in the final stage, creating some sort of synergy. Just my 2 cents.

I noticed as soon as you made the change because I left my tickets recharging after my post then when I went to play the first battle had multiple copies of the same monster. The next one had two Drakion and a bunch of mythics. The change from people’s PvP teams was very clear

Did you guys increase the chance of Cyclo appearing against Scorp(iogeist) in mythic Colosseum because I can’t believe this. I started the event with my scorp team and 80% of the time Cyclo is in the FL to 1 shot Scorp. No big deal, my team works even without him. But then I got tired of it because it got to a point where he was just a wasted slot so I switched to my link fire poison FL to support Gorgodrake. Boom no more Cyclo. But lo and behold, as I decided to switch back to my Scorp FL… There he ducking is again :joy::joy::joy: Goodbye Scorp. Why do you have to discriminate my man Scorp so hard? It’s not fair!

P.S. This post is tongue-in-cheek but seriously wtf is going on? :scream:

Maybe they’re trying to push you to potting your Scorpiogeist so it goes ahead

I would if I could.

Edit. This is just maximum trolling at this point.

I got inspired by someone on Line to take a bit of a look at what each event makes us do with team building. Ultimately, one of the things that makes each event unique and interesting to play is how they make us build a different team for the particular challenge.

Event name Unique team building Alternative/Optional building
Game of Hordes trade up super control
Whale’s Treasure link teams (all elements)
Showdown Tower consistent PvE team
Dungeon Challenge pure survival
Ultimate Challenge super buffed strategy
Island Challenge drafting buffed strategy
Okkult’s Invitation anti-archetype
Survival of the Fittest super epics
Time Attack speed sweeping
Biweekly battle decision making
Rina’s Puzzle Arena outside the box
Balancion’s Trials easy buffed strategy
Super Challenge Battle general PvE specific build to win (new players)

^ Hopefully all those are clear enough. As you can see, every single event has something different with the only crossover being “buffed strategy” but those are just optional extras in two events.

Then we come to Mythic Colosseum… consistent PvE team??

It’s basically the same as Showdown Tower except without all the unique battles and other interesting aspects of that event. You can build around the mythic, but in reality that is just for weaker/newer players to do because there are only a small number of mythics in the game which are actually worth building around for a strong player.

Mythic Colosseum grabs the team building from Showdown Tower, the difficulty system from Super Challenge Battle and the repetitive “do a battle over and over” from Survival of the Fittest. Bringing these together does not make something fun to play and the one unique thing it brings is not enough to carry it (the fact you get to play with a mythic you probably don’t own).

Mythic Colosseum needs both a unique team building aspect and an interesting way the battles are done. Here are some suggestions…

Unique team building ideas (can also be combined):

  • 8 monster team. (the mythic is a bigger factor)

  • Like IC, we build a team within the event. We’re given a Musharoo which becomes a particular mythic, depending on the battle, then a large selection of other monsters to put in the team to build around it. (properly tests building around the mythic)

  • The mythic we get is heavily buffed and the enemies are buffed quite a bit so we must build to support our mythic. (unique teams built to support a particular teammate - something not explored in other events so far)

  • Using mythics in our team could give us more points for each battle we do.

How the battles are done (can also be combined):

  • More like GoH with progressively harder battles for each “team” but you can redo a lower difficulty to farm points.

  • Make each enemy team built around a particular mythic, maybe with multiple copies of it or it buffed more than the others.

  • For each team (e.g. “team Brynhildr”) we use, we take it to face off against five different mythic “teams”. Each one has 10 battles of increasing difficulty with enemy monsters randomised but generally built around that particular mythic. In total it’s 150 battles (50 for each of our “teams”) but you grind for points rewards like currently too, meaning new players can still get them by farming the lower difficulty battles.

  • Consecutive wins make the battles get progressively tougher, but losing sets the difficulty back a bit. At higher difficulty you get slightly more points. (same system as the Colosseum in Evertale)

You could also include a leaderboard aspect to the event, depending on how it gets set up.

@Dev_VKC @Dev_BRD I hope you have some good ideas for tweaks to this event. It’s not bad, it just could be a lot better because it’s obviously lacking in some of the areas which have made other events successful.

Winstreaks are only as good as the servers. As for everything else, I agree full heartedly.
