So, I just purchased iexplorer and decided to browse Neo monsters’ save file archive. What suprised me is that there is little to no security to do this
I decided to see what would happen if I deleted the files towards the time I made my purchase. Fortunately, I found out that the gems are not related to save files. That is good, as you can’t “cheat” your gems back. HOWEVER, you CAN transfer save files and restore older files, which is bad, considering the fact if someone uses Iexplorer to hack into your device somehow and acquire a save file, your sol…
Are there any plans to make the save files server side?
Also, caution when using save files, it will create a new save file when entering the game for the old save file, and all older save files will become obsolete. Thus, if you delete your new save file, it will not be accessible again. I just lost all my monsters I just purchased via this method. And guess who’s fault that is? Mine, because I decided to find out the truth of transfer saves! And I don’t think the Neo Monsters Dev team would restore my lost content for me… even though I was trying to support them…
I was referring to their built in transfer save…the one at the end of the news announcements you can access in game. It was their answer to an “online save function” that people wanted, instead you can store a single backup of your game as often as you like, but you can only use it to restore your game with all assets at the point of the final save once per year.
That particular save is stored server side, and is the only time data other than your account with associated gems is stored server side.
Also damn, that’s really bad luck. Hopefully they can do something about it? Idk one can only wish…
No, it’s not server side apparently, otherwise, it wouldn’t be in my ipad’s device. It’s a client side save, I think.
Sorry about the confusion, I am just alarmed at what I found out. Didn’t understand before what you said, but I do now. I used to have iexplorer back when the cloud barely existed, just for getting photos and stuff from my ipad. But now, I realized that iexplorer could be used for bad purposes…
I hope they make the game’s saves server side instead of client side so people don’t actually cheat using this action.
Hmmmmm that’s odd, because the whole point of the in game transfer was if you changed phones or lost your phone or iPad, etc, you could restore the game using the transfer code on a new device and get all your mons, gems and progress back. At least that was the developers original intention. An online save that only updates when you choose for it to.
Your game does keep a client side save as well that’s constantly updated as you play, that’s the original issue people had with it being a client save only and the same reason why DI and HI we’re device locked.
Not even a big issue. If you bought the game and any explorer app you can do what you want. And for someone to try to hack your phone is pretty hard for normal person. And if they could I’d doubt they would want a neo monster save file. I use ifunbox to transfer my save files on some new devices. It’s just easier for me than online transfer
I don’t think it would work for android to ipad transfer, or visa versa. The file is probably for ipad/ipod only, dependant on the operating system/device. So, they would have to do something like Jurassic Park Builder does so that you can access the game and your saves anywhere.
As I said, it’s probably dependant on the Operating System…
Sorry, I think you misunderstood me, when I stated “a save folder”. I meant a “server save folder”. the save is not on the client side when it is backed up. However, the original save files are on the device, it takes the newest one, and backs it up on the server.
EDIT: The moderators and administrators still haven’t seen this… is anyone on this?
EDIT 1: Looks like a mod is now on reading this. Lets see what he has to say…
Well, then, why are people doing something like this as stated in the stickied post? I wondered about that… but it didn’t occur to me that this may actually be how they did it!
I’ll be honest… I edited it. It originally said "
When you create a transfer code, it backs up the save file in a save folder
When you use the transfer code, it retrieves the save from the save folder"
I realized that I said in error. I won’t lie to you
Ahaha no it’s fine, I thought I was just seeing things, pretty tired rn; just finally enjoying holidays after exams and kind of drifting in and out of sleep.
Ok, admins, I can tell by the online list and the details below the page that your here reading this… please, tell me what you have planned to solve this? I know this was sort of sudden, and all, but at least you can come up with a plan for this. If you need to take serious action against me for “hacking” the game, then do so… I can take the punishment. But please, figure out something to solve this. I can tell you my account if you need to ban me, I am Aurora.
A Dev during the beta had us all create new save files at one point due to them adding better save file security. I would assume that save files have a code registered to your device, so that they can’t be used in other devices. I’m sure that anyone using a save file that isn’t theirs would put up a red flag. It is probably much like in Hunter island where when people used someone else’s save file, it put up a “red flag” to ban them. If you are able o transfer between devices, it could be a problem, but it isn’t incredibly bad, using the same save file causes (online?) not to work for the old one, so devs can easily ban the cheaters if you are a victim and yours stops working.
I think it would be really unfair to implement this. Why not just play the way it’s already made nothing is happening to anyone. I like transferring save files through filza(iexplorer alternative) and ifunbox.
Also, caution when using save files, it will create a new save file when entering the game for the old save file, and all older save files will become obsolete. Should’ve taken a screenshot too.
If you are using an iphone and you created an icloud back up with your neo monster save file recently, completely restore your phone (Caution this will delete everything on your phone make sure your most important files are backed up) and then when you set it up, set it up from the icloud backup all your data should be back unless the icloud back up already saved your new neo monster save file.
Note; also back it up manually on itunes in case not all your data transfers.
