> Yea IDK why the devs feel like they’ve gotta create an entirely new game/community to profit, this game seemed very successful and I have no doubt that if more content was added that it’d pick up again and be a big money maker all over

I imagine it probably has everything to do with challenging themselves and getting better and when the game limits you to what you want to do or contradicts what the game has to offer, sometimes you have to make something different.

It’s the same way with Bands that make side projects that have ideas that don’t fit in with the core of the original band and want to avoid alienating the fan base

But this also leads back to the question: how long should a game last and does it being on iOS make it different from other consoles or systems?

It should last as long as it has fans. If there aren’t people playing, and you’ve done everything you can, then start on a new game. To me, there’s is still a lot of potential in the game. I mean, we haven’t had an update yet, so who knows how long it’s going to last for?

That’s what I think anyway.

It’s just that they said they were planning on a new game. It’s never too early to plan… but why announce it now?

All games have fans.

Would you want to see a content update to such Classic games as Orcarina of Time or Halo (rereleases/anniversary im not counting, even though they have an end?

There’s lots of potential in every single game that exists or will exist. Just because a game has fans, doesn’t mean you should beat the game to death with content updates all the time. There is a point where it has to end. I’d rather see a game or series end on an upswing, rather than be beaten into a pulp with so many content updates, it becomes a completely different game,

Which leads to the question: Should iOS games be different? Should they be beaten to death with content updates? Or should they be like normal games and have a point where it should end?

I agree that there should be some content updates, but not to the point you are suggesting, Kershy.

I don’t see what’s so bad about content updates… why wouldn’t you want new stuff to do in the game?

As a developer myself, I’m quite interested in this.

Content updates are very different from game mechanic updates.

A content update (for Hunter Island) could just be a new mission or a new arkadian. As long as the game still has a decent following, and it’s, at least somewhat, financially beneficial to update it then content updates should continue happening, until the above criteria aren’t met anymore. We’re getting regular content updates in the form of online missions.

A game mechanic update only needs to be implemented if either the devs want to add new features, or something needs fixing.

Although there’s a thin line between something that NEEDS fixing (i.e. wins counting as losses) and something that SHOULD be fixed (i.e. Charcalynx & Stegospike combinations). Devs have a responsibility to fix things that NEED fixing, but not so much for things that SHOULD be fixed (although it always comes back to if a game is still popular and it’s financially beneficial then things that SHOULD be fixed, _should be fixed)._

At least my view of how things should work.

I agree that when things need to be fixed, they should be done so ASAP because game breaking glitches are a real pain in the rear.

@Ash: I would love new stuff to a game. I always love new stuff (who doesn’t?)

I’m not saying content updates are bad or should be illegal or whatever.

The point I’m trying to make is that I think every game has a certain amount of time to “live”

Let’s take for example the Darksiders series (current flavor of the month, game wise for me)

Darksiders I came out in 2010 and the parallel sequel came out in 2012. I like to believe that each game has had a shining “moment” of two years, max. Now, there are exceptions to what I just stated, such as Halo which generally has a longer “life” or CoD, which has a shorter “life”

So to make a short story longer, each game should have a median “life” of two years, including content updates.

Tl;Dr: I want content updates in games but I don’t think the game should be abused forever like Clash of Clans or Battle Nations, because I feel too much content update kinda ruins the feel of the core of the game because too many can completely change the original idea of the game.

Why they’re announcing a new game so soon, I don’t know. But unless they can get more developers to help with that, we’re probably going to be stuck with long wait periods between fixes and content updates

I have to disagree on that.

As I have been playing both Clash of Clans and Battle Nations for a long time - Clash of Clans (CNB) over a year and Battle Nations (Viva BNA!) over 2 years, I think the games have gotten a lot better.

Fair enough, with Clash of Clans as I’m now Town Hall 9, it does get a bit tedious with the raiding, so they need a bit more doing to balance the economy.

Battle Nations has got tons of new units in. They’ve recently included a boss strike system which has been very successful. It brought me back playing the game again.

But this is a completely different kind of game. With those two games, you build a village and an army.

I mean, they push the missions to your device for the online missions, could they not just do that with last seasons OM rewards?

All I’m saying, is that it shouldn’t really end, as it’s only just really begun. 3-4 months? It’s still in its early days, so there should still be a lot that could be done.

And if Cosmic Island is going the robots way, I don’t think I’ll like it. I’ll give it a try though.

But they’ll eventually end. They’re freemium or pay to play games, so while they’re exceptions to the main rule, they’ll still have an ending at some point.

And like I said, most games seem to generally have a life of two years. Announcing a new game was a bit silly on the Devs part when they’ve barely added or scratched at this game BUT I really don’t see this game lasting beyond 2015

Yes it would. Personally i hate playing a game getting real good at it and bam new version out, start again. But maybe next game they may continue its storyline or update it once in a while.

But isn’t that the continuous cycle we’ve been on since the first true game consoles came out?

Game comes out, people get good, new game comes out, people split to the new game and get good there etc.

I’m personally for a challenge. I hate games that continue and don’t challenge you. I like mastering new things and I like change.

Maybe if there would be a stronger connection that are better than just the occasional “oooh look! I recognize that guy!”

And are you really sure that it would last past 2015? Just because its iOS, doesn’t mean it stays there forever.

Hunter Island seems to have become neglected. That’s what happened to it. I have little motivation to play their next game, knowing they’ll likely discontinue it as well fairly soon. What’s the point in building up a great monster collection if it’s going to be trashed right away? Some types of games are built in a way to where updates aren’t plausible; they’re built to not be updated. But a monster collection game I don’t think fits this. The goal is to build up an ever-growing collection of monsters and players shouldn’t have to dump all their monsters they collected to start over completely on a new game.

That’s why, at the very least, I support the new game being a continuation of this game and allowing monsters to carry over. But I doubt the game will even be similar in style.

As soon as I bought the game, probably around the end of November - beginning of December, I saw an announcement asking to support their new game. Anyway I did for my 100 gold.

It was only when I came to the forums that I learned that the game was relatively new.

I do believe that neglecting this game in favor of a new one is not the right move. Nevertheless, that has not been proven to be the case…yet. Work is being done, I’m sure. On top of that, this is a new game.

Anyways, new games can be good…I mean…sure, the Dragonborn and Dawnguard DLCs for Skyrim were GREAT…but do you think that the majority of fans will simply say “What? I new game? I don’t want Elder Scrolls VI, that’s awful. I want to play the same game with a few more hours of content every month!” …???..Nope, you won’t…to put this in a way that everyone will understand…Pokemon. Would you rather have Pokemon Gold/Silver with occasional wi-fi events…and then Pokemon HGSS…and then eventually Pokemon RoaringHeartGold and Pokemon ShimmeringSoulSilver? Or would you want BRY, GSC, FRLG, RSE, DPPt, HGSS, etc instead?

Personally, I think that new games that RELATE TO EACH OTHER are ideal. So basically, Dragon Island Blue and then Dragon Island Red is YAAAY…Dragon Island Blue to Hunter Island has already proven to be a success. I think the fans would appreciate DIR way more than the suggested game, but idk…that’s just me.

Now, as far as WHEN these new games are implemented…yes, I agree with many people here to an extent. The game must be developed some more, instead of leaving us with a completely broken HI while we wait for a few years until the other games come out. Honestly, I’d just go back to my DS or X-Box.

**Tl;DR - In my opinion, an ideal course of action would be to simply fix HI, provide SOME updated content, continue releasing OMs, and then eventually release DIR when the fanbase calls for it.**
